Well, good news and bad news. Bad news first. I did not get that job at I’d mentioned.
They gave rave reviews about my customer service record and knowledge, or so I was told by informants. And they seemed enthused about hiring me after two interviews. That's when I let the cat out the bag, and told y’all about the “probable” job.
Then they tested my ability to understand new, unfamiliar computer software, and quickly become adept with it. I was 100% accurate on their tests!
But too slooooow. They gave me a 2nd chance. Faster. But too slooow. Dang cat got out of the bag and ran to hell away.
It didn’t help that I was having a bad bout of sleeplessness during most of the week, including no sleep the night before the 2nd test. I recently got sleeping pills from the doc, but didn’t take them during the week of the interviews and tests because they cause such a zombie-like hangover.
Good news is it's probably for the best. Tryng to keep up with the demanding pace--of quickly helping a tsunami of subscribers figure out how to use Atomic Learning's many software tutorials--would have been, well, maybe too demanding for me at this time.
More good news is they boosted my confidence in my ability to be impressive during an interview, despite looking like I’ve been chewed up by life and spit out. I did pretty gooooood for just my 2nd interview in the past 13 years.
I had 'em hooked for a bit, but couldn’t reel ‘em in fast enough. Maybe, they should have done the computer test first…Duh.
Customer Service there depends on very fast use of their computer software, with new programs being constantly introduced. There is no time for slowly getting up to speed. Check-out atomiclearning.com, if you're wondering what I'm talking about.
Unfunny thing is, I'm probably as quick with new computer programs as the average Joe, but Joe doesn't work there either.
So, it's back to the drawing board. Anybody know of an easy job for a carnival-barker/customer service rep, who has average-speed, computer skills? Within 30 miles of my home?
In the meantime, I am working for the U.S Census Bureau for the next 4 to 8 weeks--however long it takes for this group residence counting phase. And I have a plan... I would tell you about it, but then I’d have to kiss you to death.
Thank you for your good wishes and prayers. Maybe the prayers were answered, and the answer is "Jim, look elsewhere.”
Onward with an upside down frown ![]()

p.s. More good news...How could I forget...I'M PREGNANT! No, wait, that's not it. I'm, I'm, I'm OLD! Boyhowdy, that's true, but that's not it either. OH! NOPE FOR ALMOST 3 WEEKS NOW ! That's it!

awwwwwwww well it is their loss Jim cos I would have loved having you on the other end of the phone if I was having a problem with a computer program. Dont the wankers know that when we ring up with a problem that we dont want some guy who talks computer language to us and tells us how to fix things so fast that we nearly lose our mind and have to ring back 3 times anyway lol
Oh well Jim its onward and upward for you. I know you are about 3 weeks into your quit (bloody cigar) and you are doing GREAT my friend. Please dont kiss me to death cos that could get ugly lol
Hugssssssss Jim we love ya

The NOPE is fantastic Jim (as you already know lol) and the job just wasn't meant to be! Like me,you take the silver lining approach....it gave your confidence a boost knowing you could impress plus you now know what you DON'T want to do.Employers don't seem to get what they're missing by tapping into age and experience....well.....fuck em I say lol xxx
