Getting Back Up

I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia in 1981 and then again in 2007. I had been in remission from my disease for more than 6 years when I was rediagnosed again. My biggest concern is why it came back. It seemed to be triggered by psychological meds used to treat depression specifically effexor. Then I was put on Strattera and parecetum when I started having problems focusing. This made everything much worse and eventually I had a full break down in 2009. I feel better now, but I'm still unsure why this would have made everything much worse.

Hi,
I suffer from schizophrenia and depression along with anxiety. I think if you are schizophrenic ...it kind of explains the …
thank you for your valuable input about Strattera...It is just a very winding/twisting path that must be followed with all mental disorders but some are SO much more treacherous than others. I pray all the time for my son to reach a level where his meds can either be lowered or at least constant....too much to ask I am afraid. The meds keep him from really focusing, remembering things that are important, I have encouraged him to start a "list" of daily things needed to be done or attend to...keep trying to help..and won't ever stop as long as I can be a positive in his life...good luck to you my friend!
Hi, I saw your post asking about schizo & obtaining a degree....my son has schizo-effective disorder (diagnosed but we all know that they have to call it something because it is so complex) and he finally got his batchelor's degree in education...so keep on going girl! YOU can do it; do not give up. I have never heard of strattera so I am going to ask my son about it as a medication. He has had so many different combo's of meds and sadly; he can't seem to get the right combo (if there is a right one for him)so I cannot say exactly what may possibly work for you but you seem not to require as many meds as he....good luck to you..I wish you well!

I suffer from ADHD, schizo affective disorder and has a child who is epileptic and ADHD as well.
I was diagnosed with schizohphrenia at the age of 21 back in 1981. I have not been able to find a good medicine choice that deals with the psychosis that doesn't also depress me into immobility. I spontaneously went into remission and in my 40s finished my bachelors, and tried going for my masters, only to have stress bring on another episode. I tried strattera, because I'm still in graduate school and have had some success with the depression and focus.
I have recently, when I went into advocating for change had increasing memory problems. I firmly believe that part of it was due to stress, some of it is organic as I have schizoaffective disorder, depression and anxiety, and some is environmental and trauam related ...and I'm not sure how.
I was doing great up to about a 2 years ago when perimenopause set in and then gradually I found that I had a hard time keeping up in my previously active life. I have pain, mood swings mostly depression and anxiety. Looking for help and hoping to share any solutions I find.
