I changed my life to return to my hometown and care for my elderly mother who has an incurable lung disease. I have been doing this for several years now so I totally understand what it feels like to have to lower your expectations and make personal sacrifices in caring for your elderly parents. Know that what you are doing is a noble thing and there are many out there who admire you...many who want to do what you are doing but can't, or won't because the sacrifice would be too great on their own life. One excellent source of support and inspiration is the National Family Caregivers Association or NFCA. Check out their website at www.NFCAcares.org. It is a non-profit group that distributes information and support for folks like you and me, caring for a loved one in their time of need. You are definately not alone so you don't have to feel isolated. It is important for you to take care of yourself in various healthy ways, mentally and physically, and to not get lost giving all you have in taking care your father. It is also important to establish your position with any and all of your father's physicians and related health care providers as not just someone in the background but as an essential member of your father's total care team.
