Another wait & see game Mood
Saturday, June 20, 2009

Well we had my daughters doctor appointment on Friday with the specialist to discuss her options, being he took her off tx.  All that we really found out was that he is going to write letters to the two liver specialist in Pittsburgh and see if they can get her into a clinical trial for the new drug.  He said they would contact us directly.  He also told us if she gets accepted to make sure it is not a blind test where 1/2 the patients get placebos.  Other than that he did not mention any follow up with him or even seem to remember that I was to be treated also.  I didn't mention it being we have no plans to continue with him.  I was going to ask for our files, but decided I would wait a few weeks until he had a chance to send the letters out.  So now we wait & see if she can get into a clinical trial and /or until her appointment I made with the new specialist on July 23rd.

This is the first Saturday night in 16 weeks that we haven't had to give her her Interferon shot.  It's bitter sweet.  I hated her having to do those damn shots, but at least we were doing something to fight this.  Now it seems hopeless.  Oh well, at least she'll get to enjoy her summer.

I've often wondered why one would respond to treatment, and why another wouldn't ?
So sorry your daughter was a non responder.
As you say, she can enjoy her summer months, now.
Did she have any liver damage?
If not, a person can live decades without any complication.
The key here is to live a healthy life.
Eat and exercise, and be positive.
Hopefully you will be offered one of those new studies, specialized in non responders.
Who knows maybe the specialist in Pittburg, will be a keeper, and take care of you also.
The best of luck to you both, and please keep me posted.
    Love & Respect,
    Mckenzie
