    • About Me

Born in the USA but have lived for the past 40 years Australia. Diagnosed with myeloma in 2003 - nearly died three times, but still going strong. Set up a local cancer support group in my home town 6 years ago, now it has over 100 members! Am now 'living with cancer' and no longer facing each day thinking it might be my last!!

Yeah, this hasn't been easy and easy journey. It seems it's going to get more difficult as Tom read about autologus stem cell transplant and now things have been kicked up a notch. His doc put him on antidepressants and gave him some antianxiety meds. He's going to truly need it. On second thought, so will I....

    • Close Multiple Myeloma
      Stage: III

Diagnosed in 2003, I have had Myeloma for six years but thanks to all of the new treatments and drugs I am still going strong!! A big thank you to all of the research scientists and people who have been prepared to do Clinical Trials to test these things for I have truly benefited!!

      Treatments

      Aredia Working / Worked
Worked, but stopped because of fear of osteonecrosis. Have now resumed due to bone crumbling, but only once every three months,
      Chemotherapy Somewhat Helpful
      Side effects nearly killed me.
      Dexamethasone Not Working
Dexamethasone is a real NO NO for anyone who has previously had diverticulitis!! Because of my weakened bowel, I ended up with two episodes (operations) for perforated bowel!! Be very careful if you are EVER prescribed dexamethasone!!
      Morphine Working / Worked
Patches have been the only way of getting pain relief!
      Revlimid Working / Worked
Fantastic drug - have been on it for 2 1/2 yrs.!
      Thalidomide Working / Worked
      Gave me neuropathy
      VAD Somewhat Helpful
The Dex caused two bowel perforations requiring two surgeries!
      Velcade Somewhat Helpful
Worked for 4 rounds then nearly killed me.
      Revlimid Working / Worked
I have been on 10mg of Revlimid for just over three years with fantastic results!! No dex just a bit of aspirin to prevent clotting. I am blessed!
      Fentanyl Working / Worked
Started this a few months ago as a break through and it has proven to be extremely successful. Various strengths so you need to work out what is best for you. Instant response because it is absorbed through the lining of the cheek.
    • Close MRSA

After suffering two perforated bowel episodes from a reaction to dexamethasone, I ended up with MRSA for three years.

      Treatments

      Bactrim DS Working / Worked
      long term but eventually worked
      Biaxin Working / Worked
this caused nausea and had to be stopped
      Vancomycin Working / Worked
this was tried with limited success
    • Open Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

I had CTS 36 years ago and had both hands operated on within two weeks of each other!

      Treatments

Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery Working / Worked
Cured the hands, but not individual fingers. These had to be operated on later.
      Wrist Splint Working / Worked
have perm. ones to use when necessary. Also one made of lambs wool which is really good because it keeps it warm!
    • Open Diverticulitis

Had diverticulitis many years ago and have a real cure that works for me!

      Treatments

High Fiber Diet Working / Worked
Didn't work well, still had problems.
