Alpha-males, betas, and even omegas! I'm getting quite confused with my alphabet here. A friend has inspired me to delve deeper into the mix because I can't quite decide how I feel about alpha-males; I figured I better start by knowing more about what they were.
I dunno...there's a lot of talk about wolves and pack animals, but I think if you had to sum it up, I'd call the alpha-male the all-time winner, Conan the Barbarian, Captain America, James Bond. OK maybe he doesn't have a battle ax or a shield, but I bet he has a nifty car!
Beta-males on the other hand, are the ones with the mini-vans. Apparently you can't discount them because they're the second-in-commands, occassionally looking to trade up. But most of them are allegedly good husand material...stable, reliable, steady income. Bond doesn't have a steady income and his health insurance premiums would be through the roof.
I guess what got me really thinking about all this is whether there are any alpha-females out there. Apparently there are, but they sound like they can be kind of bitchy.
According to Askmen.com alpha-females...
tend to act unimpressed by romantic guestures like cliche gifts. Surprisingly, I liked their suggestion to do something different-well after all, who wants cliche?
Also, such a female will continue to date other men. Well yeah, and if some women do it, that's where it can get kind of mean-spirited. (I turn kinda beta in my sentiments sometimes)But to be fair, I would, OK maybe not be intimate, but I would surely date others if one particular person--usually a beta--wasn't cutting it. And they say that's what often happens in marriages, that someone will cheat on a beta with an alpha. (Who can blame them... James Bond, Laura Croft and all.)
It also said something about being sarcastic and demanding--probably involving being sacastic over cliche gifts and demanding something a little less so. Honestly, would Laura Croft be happy with candy?
It seems that the candy and flowers routine is more in line with beta-females, or so some of the blogs say. I think if an alpha gave me the time of day I'd be happy, so maybe that's a bit of beta sneaking out of me again?
Hmmm, this is trouble because I seem to be running out of letters and genders...can I buy a vowel-Oh!
O is good because O is omega--which prophetically begins with the Greek letter (w) which looks an awful lot like the first letter of my name! I haven't found a stitch about omega-females, but I have found stuff on omega-males...and and I think I found myself, or at least where my mind is at.
"The polar opposite of the Alpha Male. Omega Males can have friends and close acquaintances but prefer to accomplish things on their own without the help of a group. Omega Males generally don't belong to any cliques and have no desire to be the leader or most outstanding of said clique. Omega Males have relations with people from all groups and carry a resourcefulness and cunning (sometimes strength) to get a job done with their own skill. This being said, an omega male can have great pride without it manifesting as "ego." (There are always exceptions.)
An Alpha Male MUST absolutely be perceived by his peers as the toughest, most popular, and smartest. An Omega Male cares little for this recognition...but knows that he is all those things and more.
Alpha males must have the support of his "boys." This can be the foundation for many shallow and superficial relationships. An Omega Male needs support from time to time, but has few true friends who know him intimately and generally shuns shallow acquaintances.
Two sides of the same coin....both being very effective in accomplishing goals."

Ok, I've GOT to stop you here.
Being an alpha male DOES NOT equate with being a double-Y caveman, just the head of the house, the one in charge.
I like being an alpha male and I like having relationships with alpha females.
I like my house the way I like it and don't want to compete with another guy for the privelage.
I am also a calm, fun, joyful person, NOT AT ALL the he-man type.
I'm an educated, eloquent, and civilized intellectual.
I hate shoot-em-up movies.
Alpha male only mean "the main guy"
