UPDATE 31 JAN 2009: 1) The Current Photo - My two most wonderful girls and two of a million reasons for never wanting to leave this earth! 2) AND I STILL CAN'T UPLOAD PHOTOS - NOW I'M GETTING FRUSTRATED. I submitted a 3rd message to the "feedback" guys a few minutes ago. Since my desktop has not been revived yet, I have to pull a picture from the notebook I am using now. :-)

      From Pinay2008 February 9

Someflowers for you, Traci; I bet our moms are up there, having a blast! Don't worry, we'll see them again one day. I'm just happy they're up there; my mom had to suffer not just from the cancer but infidelity from my father - the jerk! But, he'll get what he deserves for what he put her through, I'm sure. Please take care and keep in touch, Sweetie! Love always, Annie:)

      From Pinay2008 February 7

Thank you so much, Traci - your present means a lot to me. I hope you are doing better these days, Sweetie. I, too, lost my mom - several years back so I know how awful it is for you - she suffered from breast cancer for several years, and it kept coming back; finally, the doctors suggested not to do any more surgeries to save her more pain and to stop her discomfort. I was so devastated when she passed away. Once you lose your mother, the world just isn't as right anymore; I know this, personally. So please take care,Traci - I know it hurts really badly right now, but the pain does diminish after a while. I'm with you on this, Sweetie. Hang in there and keep your chin up. Go give them doctors hell!!! Love always, Annie:)

    • Close Migraine Headaches

Diagnosis: "Migraines with Blindness." They are uncontrollable and have no triggers. They occur in both single and multiple attacks. My Mother, Grandmother and Daughter also suffer these same migraines.

      Treatments

      Tylenol Not Working
Tylenol alone is completely useless for this type of pain (and for me, it's useless for any other type of pain.) I can say that I have experienced pain relief whenever Tylenol was chemically balanced with other pain relieving drugs, usually a narcotic or opiate.
      Acupuncture Not Working
Sticking myself with 20 pins just doesn't help with the pain...
      Amerge Not Working
      Triptan category. See Imitrex.
      Aspirin Not Working
Alone, OTC meds like Aspirin, Tylenol, Advil, etc., are much too weak for migraine pain and even one dose can cause rebound headaches. If the pain is servere enough, some of these simple OTC drugs can be combined with prescription pain relieving drugs. Then the chances of pain relief are greater - but it depends on the other drugs involved, the dosage and how they are administered.
Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Not Working
For me, the "foods to avoid" list is the most useless and rediculous attempt at treatment/prevention. I say this after 20 years of studying my surroundings everytime I had an attack. I went so far as to believe the trigger could even be an outfit I wore that day, or any other "thing" that occurred "out of place" in the 12 hours before the attack. This turned out to be nothing more than superstition and I could never duplicate any of these things, making it an official "trigger."
      Axert Not Working
      Triptan category. See Imitrex.
Botulin Toxin Too Soon to Tell
I do not have sufficient knowledge about this treatment to say yes or no and as far as I understand, it is not a treatment that health insurance companies will cover.
      Caffeine Not Working
Provides no relief when used alone and its use for this purpose has a pretty good rate of rebound headaches.
      Excedrin Working / Worked
As with many OTC medications, Excedrin is much too weak for my type of Migraine pain. It works great for mild tension headaches though.
      Fioricet Not Working
Fioricet and Fiorinal provide minimal to no pain relief for Migraines. The ingredients that make up these two drugs have been much more successful in treating tension headaches. But just like any pain relieving drug (OTC or Scrip), it only takes one dose to cause a rebound headache. I have found that on a rare occasion, I can get a small amount of pain relief if my dosage is 3 or 4 tablets instead of the prescribed 1 or 2. And that simply isn't safe to do.
      Fiorinol Not Working
See Fioricet. The Aspirin in Fiorinal upsets my stomach.
      Imitrex Not Working
Triptan category - All of the Triptan drugs, including Imitrex, cause a "squeezing" sensation in the vessels in my head and neck. I used Imitrex for over 2 years and never experienced consistent, successful relief - only the feeling that my brain was being rung out like a wash cloth. This was because Triptans only work with typical Migraines and the rate of one or more repeat attacks are pretty decent.
      Inderal Not Working
I did not find relief in any beta blocker medications.
      Magnesium Not Working
I do not have sufficient information or knowledge about Magnesium to explain why it did not work. It just didn't work.
      Maxalt Working / Worked
      Triptan category. See Imitrex.
      Midrin Not Working
Used Midrin (Duradrin) for over a year and never experienced successful relief - just a whole lotta drowsiness.
      Naproxen Not Working
Much too weak for Migraine pain.
      Relpax Working / Worked
      Triptan drug - See Imitrex.
      Topamax Not Working
Does not relieve the symptoms of a migraine. Within a few weeks of taking Topamax, I experienced the side effects of clumsiness, confusion, poor mental and physical reaction, slurred speech, poor memory - all of which are listed as "common." I found it quite amusing that the Pharmacist referred to the drug as "dopey-max" - at least until I took off the end of my right index finger with a meat cleaver because I wasn't able to think properly. I don't recommend Topamax to anyone.
      Zomig Not Working
      Triptan category. See Imitrex.
    • Close Bereavement
      Type: Loss of a Parent

I lost my Mother in my care, when I shouldn't have. Her death was sudden and unexpected. The rest = more than 500 characters.

      Treatments

      Crying Somewhat Helpful
Crying is nothing more than venting the grief for me. It's temporary.
      Getting Angry Somewhat Helpful
Same as crying. It's only a temporary relief.
      Grief Counseling Not Working
Due to the circumstances and history surrounding her death, I have yet to find a Counselor/Psychologist who says anything other than "it wasn't your fault" or "you did everything you could" - when they know nothing more than what I can fit into an hour session. It's a textbook response and I've fired every single one.
Keeping Busy Too Soon to Tell
It's not proven that keeping busy works. It's been 2 years and I'm sure I've had busy days and non busy days - but the grief is the same.
      Music Not Working
Depends on the song and it's lyrics. They all bring me to tears, but some are good tears.
      Pets Somewhat Helpful
I have found temporary comfort when my lil' Yorkie - who was born one month after Mom died, jumps up for no reason at all, runs to the hallway and stares at my Mother's oil portrait with his ears perked.
      Poetry Too Soon to Tell
I've only written one poem for her. I cried the entire time it took me to write it, and I cry everytime I read it. I wish they'd add an "undecided" to the Status field.
      Prayer Too Soon to Tell
Religion is an undecided subject for me. Let's leave it at that.
      Psychotherapy Not Working
See Grief Counseling. BUT, I am gonna try one more time - have an upcoming appointment with a new Psychologist.
      Reading Not Working
No way - reading bores me.
      Remembering Too Soon to Tell
It always makes me cry, so see Crying.
Support from Friends & Family Somewhat Helpful
My family (her family) no longer speaks to me. I will expalin this better in a journal entry. My Husband's family has been my true family in so many ways on this one. But the relief is only temporary.
Support Groups Too Soon to Tell
      This is the first one.
      Talking Somewhat Helpful
It's not that it works or doesn't work. I can talk about her - I have no problem with that. But I guarantee I will cry. That doesn't make me stop talking about her though. :-)
      Time Not Working
So far - not working. I don't care what they say, "time" does NOT heal ALL wounds.
