Close Fibromyalgia
Diagnosed about 11 years ago. This year began having the most painful flareups I've ever experienced. Found that I shouldn't have taken Cipro for the UTIs and kidney infections I had earlier in the year. Seeing a rheumatologist soon.
Treatments
- Aqua Therapy Somewhat Helpful
- Helpful in the duration, doesn't last.
- Heat Somewhat Helpful
- Works somewhat, mostly a comforting feeling while the heat is on.
- Lyrica Too Soon to Tell
- Just started it today (11/19/08)
- Hydrocodone Somewhat Helpful
- Works occasionally not during really bad flares. Hate taking it because of potential for dependency.
Close Migraine Headaches
I'm 52, had my 1st migraine at 19. Maternal grandmother, older sister and 2 nieces also have frequent migraines. Took Midrin until recently, stopped due to high BP.
Treatments
- Caffeine Somewhat Helpful
- Diet Coke, helps sometimes.
- Excedrin Not Working
- Tried several times, never helped at all.
- Midrin Working / Worked
- Worked on and off. If I used very frequently, became ineffective. Stopped on advice of Dr. due to high BP.
- Tylenol Not Working
- Never touched the pain
- Demerol Working / Worked
- Have an injection of Demerol and Phenergan occasionally usually helps. Only twice have I needed second injection. Unfortunately cant drive or work after injection. Have to sleep it off. Still sometimes its a lifesaver
Open Bipolar Disorder
Diagnosed about 8 years ago, at age 44. Bipolar 1, am able to work about 8-9 months a year.
Treatments
- Abilify Somewhat Helpful
- But caused extreme shortness of breath
- Group Therapy Working / Worked
- Participated in group therapy as an inpatient and as an outpatient in hospital setting. Was quite helpful.
- Lamictal Somewhat Helpful
- Didn't make that much difference, maybe a little
- Lithium Not Working
- Didn't work, and caused severe side effects. Took about a year to figure out that the Lithium was the cause of a lot of new problems. Going off was the best thing I've done since being diagnosed.
- Risperdal Not Working
- Caused extreme shortness of breath, had to stop taking
- Seroquel Not Working
- Makes me so sleepy, can't function the next day, on the smallest dose possible. Turns me into a zombie, was unable to work up to higher dosage, which was my psychiatrist's plan
- Topamax Not Working
- Don't remember it doing anything really noticeable
- Wellbutrin Working / Worked
- Worked okay for a while
Open Angina
Am in ICU this very minute. Came into ER last night, will have stress test tomorrow morning. Likely angina. Have had Nitro, Morphine, something else I can't remember at the moment.
Treatments
- Nitroglycerin Working / Worked
- Had it last night in ER. Gave 3 more tablets under tongue, after giving me 2 shortly after I came into ER. Worked, but gave me a killer headache, and Morphine made me VERY nauseous.
