IFN I COULD, I WOULDN'T Mood
Sunday, February 15, 2009
As the bible (not my most over explored book) says "pride goeth before a fall"! So proud of my resistance to side effects, like the hypo manic delusional fool that I am, I asked the Dr. "Do you think I could tolerate an increase in the IFN seeing I haven't got any side effects yet? He hummed and ha'd as Dr.s do and finally agreed to increase from 135 mics to 157.5 mics. Well, 1 hour after shot I started feeling a trifle peculiar. By the next day I couldn't hardly move from all the joints in my body acting out! My head swam in  mild but insistent complaint, saying "fragile contents, handle with care!" However that was Friday, today, Monday I am nearly back to full operating mode - such as it is. Maybe I can tolerate 145-150 with the kidney problems but I doubt that I can handle much more. Does any one know about monotherapy in my condition - hemodialysis etc., your optimistic Aussie mate, Mindy xxx

Good evening Mindy, hope this finds you as well as can be.
Now I've been studying your profile in order to see where you were at with treatment, and realized that you are also on dialysis, wow now thats a lot for a women to handle.

How many times a week to you get your blood exchanged? if you don't mind me asking.
One more thing, I just couldn't find what genotype you are, which will tell me how many weeks you will be on therapy.

I just wanted to advise you that the side effects usually starts well into the first dozen of shots, not right from the start, unless you are alergic to the riba pills, Like I was...
So don't be in such a hurry to get that interferon up, you will be sorry.
What you should do is get the riba pills up, if you want the interferon to do it's job sooner than later.

You see the riba's job is to weaken the immune system in order to open the door in order to get the interferon to do it's job.

If you get your ribavirin dosage higher, then the door will be WIDE open, and the interferon will work much faster, and earlier be undie.

It's wierd that your gi didn't explain this to you.

I was genotype 1a, and my gi knew that there was no way in hell I would be stuck with a virus that my hubby had contracted years ago, and that he had managed to be SVR at his 6 months mark, and to this day, 7 years later.
So even though I would have fell into the category of 800mgs a day, she put me on the highest dosage of ribavirin which was 1200mgs in those earlier days of combo treatments.

In my case the side effects started at day 6 into treatment.
Which made sence in the end, cause it was the riba I had a bad reaction to, but again there was no way in hell I would be stuck with this virus.
So I did my 48 weeks of combo treatment from Schearing, right up to the last riba pill, and the virus was undetected at week 12, which was the first PCR that I was given to see if I was a responder, which I was, the virus, my viral load in other words, was to zero, undetected. Then at my 6 months mark, when they give you another PCR to see if I had SVR "Substain viral responce" I was, still undie, no more virus, forever, well if you continue to live a healthy lifestyle.
We never did drink another drop of alcohol, and maintained a healthy diet, and we are still free of the virus years later.
My hubby over 7 years, and I over 5 years.
According to Schearing Co., after 7 years you can consider yourself CURED yes the big C word, cure of the virus.

Now to get back at you my love.
If you want to write me a message, and tell me more about your situation.
But in the meantime, let me congratulate you on your courage to kill this hideous virus, my dear WARRIOR FRIEND.

    Love & Respect,
    mckenzie
