Saw my doc today Mood
Thursday, February 12, 2009 | A General Update story

I went to the doctor for my leg today and yet again have diagnosed myself...maybe I am in the wrong profession. Anyway I have an inflamed achilless tendion and some very small tears in my calf musle. This is all due to a massive debilitating leg cramp I had two weeks ago. You know the kind, where you just drop what you are doing because it feels like someone is stabing you in the leg with a hot poker and twisting it around.

You will never beleive what he told me... to wear high heals until its better!!! Thank goodness I am a girl or else I don't know what the hell I would do. He told me to do this to take pressure off of the tendon. It actually is really helping already!

On another note i am afraid that I have to fire him in terms of treating my thyroid disease, I really just asked him some questions to kind of see where he was coming from in terms of my treatment approach, annoyingly enough all he kept talking about was my TSH. He also said that it wasnt so important to find out what caused they hypothyroidisim because the treatment would be the same anyway. AARRGGHH. I feel fine right now I dont think my levels are off but, I dont see this boding well for future issues I might have. I was really hoping that I could trust him to handle this because I like him and he was the first one to say there was something wrong...he figured out that I needed meds and I feel he really saved my life, needless to say I am really dissapointed but, he just isnt thourough enough for me.  So I want to find a plesant way to ask him for a referral to an endo and keep him as my family doctor. Well, thats about all for now. Thanks for listening.

now is the time for me to help you. your family doctor is not a specialist. if you have to get a referral very nicly tell him that you respect his opinion and him as a doctor, but becasue the thyroid is such a specailized and delicate matter, you would like to see an endo just to have him answer your specific questions regrding treatmnet methods, levels etc... he should respect your request. Most doctors would. If he doesnt, than it may be time to find a new doctor.
