I am a single parent of a beautiful and intelligent 18 year old! I am the advertising production manager with the hometown newspaper and am thankful to have a job that has worked around my illness. I love to read, love music (all kinds), the outdoors, my dog and being with my family. My philosophy is "It could always be worse!"

Yup, I tend to live by the "it always could be worse" philosophy too (Pollyana defense mechanism). Some days that becomes hard too though!

Close Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis
I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 1998 and am currently doing very well. I am just looking for others to share the daily grind, especially with people who understand what it is like to live with a disease that people just don't understand a lot about.
Treatments
- Asacol Working / Worked
- Working well. I have had photosensitiviy and hair loss (but my hair is really thick)
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- I try to avoid lots of sugar (and I have an awful sweet tooth), no cornbread, tomato based foods and beef.
- Azathioprine Working / Worked
- Worked well. My white blood count bottomed out and I had to quit the meds, I still have a very low immune system from the medication.
- Colazal Working / Worked
- Didn't work, got very ill.
- Entocort Working / Worked
- Worked, don't recall any side effects.
- Prednisone Working / Worked
- Worked. Side effects!!! Name them I had them, all except the weight gain. I really watch my sodium intake. I was on Prednisone for almost 3 years.
- Probiotics Working / Worked
- Worked well. No side effects
- Remicade Working / Worked
- Excellent, In remission, off steroids. I did break out with hives after the treatment
