I have been to AA for many years. In 1990 I managed to quit drinking for 2 1/2 yrs. Then a couple times for a year each. Then came my extreme meth addiction. I came to a point where I could not live without meth. It lasted for years like that. Then in 2006, I decided to stop using and have not been using since. But, this last summer and fall I have been drinking and I quit last November 01, 2008. I am happy with my decision. I just need a support group this time.
I began having seizures as a small child. My mother is a nurse so no one in my family (neither parent) took me to the doctor until I had a seizure at school and they had to. Then I began taking Tegretol. Then I stopped taking any for years and the seizures gradually got worse. The symptoms got worse. Then I tried many different meds only to end up on Lamictal, which works well.
I began using meth just a little bit here and there in 1992 with some friends at a party. Then a few more times and etc. By 1995 I used meth more often and enjoyed its effects a lot more, staying awake for days at a time. Then in 2001 I went full fledged addicted, using daily and the amounts soaring through the roof! In 2002 I began iv use and ended up in the hospital in Spokane, WA almost dead. I had gotten endocarditis, which is vegetation on my heart valve. I had 10% chance to live.
I found out I am Bipolar in 1999. They put me on some meds which I did not take seriously and they did not work. Then 2 years ago I decided to take my meds regularly and stay off of meth and alcohol and cocaine, etc. This has made a big difference in my life!!!
