my mum has been undergoing treatment for the past month.
she's been on a treatment used for myeloma patients, and it's a combination of the drugs lenolipromide and dexamethosone. her light chain results month ago were 420, and after the last set we are now down to 171!!!
so this is obviously a very good sign (!) that this treatment is working and we are all very hopeful that her protein count will go down to normal (which is 28).
we are all thrilled as you can imagine, and this is also a stepforward in clinical trials, as any progress made with new patients and drug tests are thoroughly beneficial.
it's weird when your own mum is such an important statistic...
none of us all back here really expected it to work this well so fast, and as this kind of treatment is one that is meant to be ongoing, we expect her to be on it for a long time, and if it keeps her count down to a manageable level, we could have her for alot longer than we first anticipated.
the biggest thing i was going to miss if we did lose her, was being able to give her a grandchild. i wanted to name my little girl (when i have her) cassandra philippa grace. Philippa is the name of my mum's first baby, which she lost only 24 hours after giving birth to her. she will be about 24 now, and is she had lived she would have been badly disabled, and i may not have been born and have the most wonderful person in the world as my mum. i wanted to carry on the name to my daughter, along with the middle name grace, which has been in my family for years now.
traditions are a wonderful thing, especially at christmas, and i cant describe how happy i am to be spending another one with her.
i hope you all spend christmas with the ones you love too.

I know you are a great joy to her, and she really appreciates all that you do.
