    • About Me

My husband is 54 and we've been married only 6 years. He's diagnosed with MELAS and is now on hospice. I am trying to continue to work and have recently had to employ caregivers to come in while I'm working. I so desperately need to hear from others who struggle with the emotional/spiritual/financial/physical responsibilities. I love him sooo much and truly believe that God brought us together for this time. I just need to know that I'm not the only one with feelings of inadequacy at times.

I am feeling so overwhelmed and confused about my husband's MELAS diagnosis. I see his health failing more each week, and in new/unexpected ways. …

My husband was diagnosed with MELAS last October. Since then, he's lost a lot of ground physically, and is on palliative/hospice care. He's only 54. We've been married for just 6 years. He speaks often of giving up.

      Treatments

      CoEnzyme Q Not Working
We used this for almost a year, at quite high dosages as prescribed by our neurologist...but found that it was not effective. Whenever we ran out of it, he felt no difference in energy at all. Since he takes SO many medications, he chose to stop taking those 8 capsules (or more) per day.
    • Close Caregivers

My husband was diagnosed with MELAS a year ago. It is progressing quickly. This month I actually hired a part-time caregiver for while I'm at work. He is also on Hospice. They are wonderful people. Is anyone else exhausted like me? Does anyone else feel overwhelmed?
