Week 1 over Mood
Saturday, November 1, 2008

Well, it as been a week.  It has been interesting though.  It fully set in with my husband the limitions that are already starting to show.  He had to twist the lid off a jelly jar for me.  I have worked almost 10 hours overtime this week, making it a long week.  I was so tired when I left work yesterday that I could barely drive home.  The good news is the girls were gone and I got to have a quite evening with my husband.  The pain is still there in my hands but it is not too bad this morning.

I do have to say to all my new friends here at DS, I am so glad that I have found this site and met so many supportative people.  Hugs to you all and thank you.

It is tough when you can't do the things you used to. My doctor had requested occupational therapy for me. It was the best thing I ever did. They showed me how to do things differently, so I wouldn't further damage my joints. For example, using a jar opener with a big handle on it. My OT also suggested using a paraffin bath for my hands. This really helped and made my skin soft. I still use it occassionally. The parafin baths can be found at Target, Sears, etc. One company that makes them is Homedics.

That's nice that you could have a relaxing evening. Hope you have a good weekend.

    Hugs,
    Dawn

There was a discussion thread, not all that long ago, about things different people are doing to help with thelimitations of RA. There are some good ideas floating around. I agree with dawn2 about the jar opener. Hopefully, when you see an RD, get a treatment going, and get some relief, you can file all the tips in the "just in case" box. I've kept a pair of adjustable pliers by my dish rack for over 3 years.

Sorry you've got pain and limitations. This disease sucks, but it can get better.

    Hi Tammy,

I still remember a day, not too long ago, when my RA was at it's worst. I asked my teen-age son to clean his bathroom and stood in the bathroom "supervising" when I suddenly started to cry because I could not do it myself... Can you believe this? I was crying because I could not clean his dirty bathroom (a chore that I utterly detest under normal circumstances). Why am telling you this? Because the day will come when you will see that opening cans with an electric can opener (my latest gift to myself) is fine, letting the men in your life do stuff for you makes them feel great about themselves, and preserving your joints is the most important thing there is. Will continue to pray for you, my dear. Hugs. Linda
