Maybe it’s because I was once her size and had such a difficult time accepting myself… Maybe it’s because this JOY cannot be FAKED! You know, I’m not much of a movie buff, and I really never go to the theatre… I DO KNOW, I will OWN this film when it is released on DVD, and I DO KNOW, I will try to see this at a theatre when it comes out…
Gabby Sidibe is a marvelous, joyful womyn who accepts herself exactly as she is. I know it is hard to love yourself when you are a very large womyn… I know I still loose that love for myself when I judge myself for being larger than I should be (I think I always will, sadly, but it was inbreed in me with so much influence from others when I was a nearly 300 lb. womyn after being a large teenager—I was tormented by boyz… Somewhere in my mind, I can still be that very large, unhappy womyn…).
Gabby Sidibe is the lead character in the new movie “Precious”, and I really cannot WAIT to see this film! Here is a video of Gabby on the Ellen Show… It says it all; you MUST watch this video! This womyn is so comfortable in her own skin that she is an excellent role model FOR ALL WOMYN!

Dave, darling, I see that I was not quite clear on this journal... At one time in my life, I was almost 300 lbs. THEN, I lost an entire person, 150 lbs. on Weight Watchers. That was in 1993...
I still play with 40 up and down (which is up right now), but when you are as large as Gabby, it's a personal prison with no logical escape... She does not seem to live in that dark place in which I lived so much of my life... xoxoxo Cj

I really believe hon that women no matter what size we were or are we always have a low self esteem.. Its all the pictures and advertising we saw growing up..We have to love ourselves!! I love you Cj...

oh cj we love u just the way you are. besides my thinking is "you don't like how I look then look the other freaking way". In a way it's sort of sad cuz now days with all the tv commercials and magizine telling you "be skinny" it's telling our kids the wrong message. Then adults wonder why we got so many teenage girls with eatting disorders..You got to love yourself before others can love you at least thats what I belieave.

I understand, cj, just what you are talking about. The fat girl may go away in the mirror but she never leaves your mind. I was not as big as you were but was quite big...enough to hear the "pig" sounds behind me at high school from a boy or two. You never forget it.
It's the confidence in spite of appearance that we SO admire and desire for ourselves, isn't it, love? That's what attracts you to this lovely actress. Thanks for sharing the link, I am hearing a lot about this movie too and am looking forward to seeing it. LV*M

I saw the star on Ellen earlier this week and also can't wait to see the movie. Yesterday while roaming thru Walmart, I spotted the book and grabbed it. I can't wait to read it. It's called, 'precious' and it's based on the novel 'PUSH.' Not sure what that means but am going to read 'precious' and find out!

Yep, I heard about it months ago when Monique was talking about it. She's also a large woman comfortable in her own skin.
The movie is so sad, but I hear the performance are outstanding! Monique is Oscar worthy.
