Close Head and Neck cancers
Type: OtherI was diagnosed with caner after 4 days of showing symptons. I recieved a 18hr and 10hr surger, radioactive iodine, and radiation therapy. I am now 4 years cancer free!
Treatments
- Radiotherapy Working / Worked
- This was the worst, but it worked. I was ok for the first couple of weeks, but after that everything went downhill. I began to be sick every morning, afternoon and night. I was unable to eat or drink and I had to be on IV fluids. I was finally admitted to the hostpital so thay could get me stabilized. The side effects lasted about 3 months.
- Surgery Working / Worked
- The first surgery didn't go so well. I was under for 18hrs and they didn't get 1/2 of the cancer. There was also a lot of swelling and I needed a trecheotomy. The second surger went much better, but I lost my voice for a while.
- Radioactive Iodine Working / Worked
- This wasn't that much fun. After 6 weeks of being on a strict diet, the give you the iodine and let you eat what you want. An hr later or so, you end up getting sick and this lasts for 8-10hrs. Then you fell better, but since you are radioactive, you must stay in a lead room until you levels decrease. It usually takes 2-4days.
