General Odds And Ends Mood
Tuesday, January 13, 2009 | A General Update story

So glad the holidays are over!  I just found it too hard to get excited over Christmas, with all the frenzied shopping and brash determination to outspend each other that people where showing.  Even the little kids had a glazed look of hungery greed, and nearly evil intent as they wanderedthrough the stores with their parents.  The normal high decibel scream levels were increased when parents said no to the little darlings, and normally friendly neighbors did their best to literally run over each other to get to the sale racks.  Whatever sense of good will and holiday cheer was supposed to exist was orely lacking.  As for the new year, well, for now it looks pretty much like the last one, with everything moving in slow motion, or not at all.

I did manage to start getting my kidneys under control.  The doctor was impressed with the drastically lower creatinine levels, down to 2.1 from 4.3.  amazing what cranbery juice and self hypnosis will do.  Now to go after the heart issues with the same single mindedness, and proper supplements.

Trying to get back into writing, and more photography.  Jackie was actually very generous the past few weeks, and gave me a new digital camera.  Not an expensive one with all the bells and whistles, which is fine, but a pretty versatile little point and shoot.  She also got me a 100 to 300 mm lens, and a 500mm mirror lens, and two 2x converters, one for each lense, since they need different types.  So, basically, the mirror lens and converter will allow me get really good close ups when I can't get all that close.  She has also arranged to get press passes for her and I for the next bull riding event we go to, so we can take "professional" pictures.  The hitch?  The PBR owns the copyright to the pictures.  Not the ones I take with my Kodak. HAR!

That's the advantage of my little point and shoot EasyShare, it is not considered a professional camera, so my shots are MINE!  What is a real hoot is that I have not been doing photography all that long.  I have been using a digital camera for about five years, and 35mm for less than a year.  More like six  months.  And there is no real competiton between Jackie and I.  She considers herself a historian, capturing moments for some form of posterity.  I am more of an artistic bent, wanting to capture moods and beauty.

I have to see the job coach this afternoon, so I should be in bed.  Then I have to hurry home to deal with the quarterly home visit from the agency that keeps Jackie paid as my attendant.  I like the lady who does the visits, but I just hate having to deal with all the questions.

So, that's pretty much it.  Still trying to get a head start on this fish horror story.  I know what kind of fish, what the ending is.  Now I just have to get to it.  Of course I chose to write something about the candiru fish.  For those who don't know that little cutie, he's the tiny catfish who swims up a guy's weinie and starts eating his way out.  As if that is not frightening enough, that is just the beginning of my protagonist's troubles.
