    • About Me

I was diagnosed with moderate adult asthma in 9/06 at the age of 44. Through the diagnosis I learned that I've also had EIA (exercise induced asthma) my whole life (I thought everyone's lungs hurt when they ran up and down a basketball court!), and that my mom also has asthma and EIA. I have far too many triggers, but am very thankful that 95% of the time my asthma attacks dissipate if I can get away from the triggers. I am so happy that I have found this group.

I am a Christian and I love to knit, crochet, do counted cross-stitch and read. I own a home-based business, and I love doing traffic control in front of my daughter's school. I have a wonderful husband who is getting better and better at understanding and helping with my asthma.

I'm glad the meds are working for you. It's no fun being depressed. I heard with kids that they get worse when they are hungry. I guess it's just too much for the body to handle. I don't always remember to eat, so I would probably be in lots of trouble. My asthma is crap still. They are trying to get it under control but it is being very stubborn. I've been upgraded on my nebulizer meds. I now use my nebulizer two times a day and go up to 4 times if needed. I keep getting these attacks for no good reason a couple times a day. I'm just too inflamed I guess. Sucks, but whatcha gonna do? The weather has been getting hot here too. We've been hitting the 90's also. We are in a rain spell right now. They expect it to rain daily for most of the week. This is very good news because we are very dry and it's causing lots of fires. Very bad news for asthmatics... Have a good week, Robin

Hey Twitchy, I'm doing pretty good now. Oh yes, we have wind here and lots of it. The wind has blessed me with a congested nose, raspy voice and just a little SOB. I sound like a man on the phone and now I am a SIR! ROFL Oh and I am sure my porch is full of leaves and so I need to do a clean up. I'm glad to hear your lungs are doing well. :)

    • Close Asthma
      Type: Adult Asthma

I was diagnosed with moderate Adult Asthma 2 years ago, at 44. I've had EIA (exercise induced asthma) most of my life and never knew it. I thought everyone's lungs hurt when they exercised! My lungs are very reactive. My triggers are wood and cigarette smoke, all fragrances, strong odors, cold, laughing, crying, and stress. I've never had a severe attack, for which I am very thankful. My heart goes out to those who do.

      Treatments

      Advair Working / Worked
Great stuff! It's the only med that keeps my reactive lungs calmed down. I was on 500/50 for awhile until I got my sinuses under control, now I'm on 250/50 and I add an extra dose or two of fluticasone when my asthma worsens during my cycle.
      Albuterol Working / Worked
3-4 times per week, even though I'm on Advair 250/50.
      Asmanex Not Working
Gave me a splitting headache the one time I used it. I told the doc I refused to do that to myself twice a day.
      Azmacort Not Working
Gave me a mild headache, not strong enough.
      Flonase Not Working
This had a rose scent to it and it actually triggered an asthma attack! I was NOT happy!
      Flovent Working / Worked
Use it to supplement the Advair during my cycle or if I'm sick.
      QVAR Not Working
Tried it, but it wasn't strong enough for me.
      Serevent Working / Worked
Worked well, but the powder bothered me a little. I switched to Advair so I was taking only one medicine, and it seemed to me that the particles were much finer.
    • Close Miscarriage

My wonderful daughter was born in Dec. 99, after 3.5 yrs of trying. I had spotting at 6 weeks with her, and I am so very, very thankful that we didn't lose her, too. Then I lost two babies, one in January 2001 and one in January 2003. My heart still aches for my babies, but it's an ache of love now, and not as filled with grief.

      Treatments

      D&C Working / Worked
Both of my babies died at 5-6 weeks into the pregnancies, but I didn't miscarry the 2nd one until 11 weeks. I hemorraged quite a bit, so I went to the ER and they did a D&C.
    • Open Sleep Apnea

My husband was diagnosed with UARS (Upper Airway Resistence Syndrome) on 11/12/08. He doesn't stop breathing, but he experiences increased esophageal pressure, which causes frequent wakenings during the night.

      Treatments

      CPAP Too Soon to Tell
      Just started it on 11/12/08.
      Lose Weight Considering
He only has about 25 lbs. to lose...
    • Open Depression
      Type: Clinical (Major) Depression

I was diagnosed with moderate clinical depression in mid May 09. I am experiencing apathy, mostly, and am tired quite a bit of the time.

      Treatments

      Celexa Working / Worked
Started on 5/14. It's beginning to help, though it's sporadic right now.
      Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
It helped to talk with the therapist and psych doc and to find out I'm not losing my mind. Side effects: drowsy with first two pills, not so much now. Actually have excess saliva in my mouth. Very odd. Nothing else yet...
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
Hubby is being very considerate and patient now that we know why I don't want to do anything.
