    • About Me

      I recently turned 39 years old. I am married to an amazing man with whom I would love to have a child! I've been previously married and we didn't have children. I was able to get pregnant once, but it didn't make it. I'm now at a place in life that I can literally hear my biological clock ticking! I was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance, last year; therefore getting pregnant has been a challenge. The good news is that I now have a name for all of the symtoms that I've experience for so many years! The weight gain from the insulin resistance makes sense, but I was also bulimic, when I was young, and that too has contributed to my weight gain. When you stop purging, but still have bouts of binging, the weight doesn't go away! Overall, I still emotionally/stress eat, but I don't believe that I have serious problems with that anymore. Of course, they say that once you have an eating disorder, that you always do, just as alcoholics will always have a difficult relationship with alcohol. All in all, I'm just battling the normal stresses of life and the PCOS is just making it a bit more difficult than I would like! How is it that some women can just think of sex and get pregnant and others of us can't get pregnant to save our lives? Nobody ever said that life would be easy! :^}

    • Interests

I love music. I have been singing my entire life and can't imagine not having that as my outlet from life's stresses. I listen to everything from Southern (70's) rock, Country, pop & disco to classic artists like Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. I love movies. I grew up as a movie buff and still enjoy watching almost anything. I really like psychological thrillers, but there aren't many movies out there that can scare me anymore! I enjoy swimming and the warmth of the sun. My favorite season is Fall when the air is crisp and clean. I am very interested in politics and current events and listen to talk radio nearly every day. I love to read self-help books and one of my favorites is "All you can do is all you can do, but all you can do is enough", by A.L. Williams.

      From JOANNE434 October 22, 2008

Oh my.....my RE didn't give me that pamphlet. Thank goodness because I'm literally ready to fall to pieces the moment we pull into his parking lot on a good day....lol. I was so frustrated that AF refused to show up for over 55 days so I couldn't even get my stinkin baseline blood work done or do the clomid challenge to even see if I have any ovarian reserve left, ugh. So, because of that and my history of cysts I have to go right to lap surgery. My surgery consult is tomorrow morning and I'm a bit scared but anxious to actually be taking a first step in this IF journey with an RE. Sorry for the ranting. I hope and pray you get a BFP quickly....let's definitely keep each other posted. We need all the friends we can get. Hugs!

    • Close Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

I was diagnosed in 2007 after years of hurting and irregular periods. I have also been diagnosed as having insulin resistance. I am frustrated that this controls so much of my life. When I hurt, I HURT TERRIBLY. I read all about how pain isn't supposed to be involved, but I certainly feel it. Sometimes, it is so painful that I have to take a Vicodin, get a heating pad and just go to sleep. I guess I am hoping that I will sleep away the pain.

      Treatments

      Metformin Working / Worked
I can't tell if the Metformin is working at all. My periods are still erratic.
      Progesterone Working / Worked
Just started it this month. The bleeding was HORRIBLY heavy and felt like I was going to hemorhage. The pain was terrible too.
      Vitex Working / Worked
I take this myself and I think it has been helpful. It seems to have brought on a period before I started the metformin. The best part is that it has no side effects.
    • Close Adoption

My husband and I were just recently approved for adoption through foster care.

    • Open Diabetes Type 2

My husband is a type II diabetic and I desperately want to support and help him in every way!

      Treatments

      Glipizide Working / Worked
      Metformin Working / Worked
    • Open Diets & Weight Maintenance

I'm overweight and desperately trying to get pregnant. I need all of the support possible to lose the excess weight to make the process easier.

      Treatments

      Counting Calories Working / Worked
Eating Healthier Foods Working / Worked
      Slim-Fast Working / Worked
      Weight Watchers Working / Worked
    • Open Diverticulitis

I was diagnosed with Diverticulosis about 7 years ago; however I've had digestive trouble for most of my life. Every day is a struggle to NOT let it adversely affect my life!

      Treatments

      High Fiber Diet Somewhat Helpful
      No really obvious changes.
      Effexor Somewhat Helpful
I took effexor to help control my stomach problems, which were worsened by stress. I have to say that it decreased my stress level to a degree. I found that I had a calmer reaction to stressful situations; however there is a VERY ugly side to this medication. The benefits likely only outweight the problems for someone who has SERIOUS issues; otherwise I can't imagine why anyone would take it. I gained a tremendous amount of weight, had horrible headaches, exhausting fatigue and still had stomach trouble due to the side effects. What's worse is the side effects when trying to get OFF of this stuff. The Brain Shocks, dizziness, nausea, irritability and etc. are horrific. I wish that I had NEVER taken this medication. The doctor's don't warn you about the side effects while on it OR coming off of it. It honestly shouldn't be on the market!!!
    • Open Eating Disorders

Formerly Bulemic, which the doctor says caused the sudden weight gain. He said my metabolism just literally stopped working and everything got stored as fat, because it thought I was starving. Very frustrating... I don't purge anymore;however binging is still a part of my life at times.

    • Open Infertility

My husband and I desperately want a child. I was diagnosed with PCOS last year and am working with a fertility specialist to see if pregnancy is possible. I'm almost 39 and have tried for years with no luck. I'm frustrated!!

      Treatments

      Adoption Considering
we've completed the classes and area awaiting approval; however I really am not ready to give up on the idea of us conceiving.
      Artificial Insemination Considering
      Thinking of it, if necessary.
Basal Thermometer Too Soon to Tell
Seems to work, but is still new to me.
      Clomid Considering
I've heard good things about resulting pregnancies, so I am hoping that the doctor will prescribe it soon.
      Folic Acid Working / Worked
I've been taking extra for months, just in case!
      HSG (Hysterosalpingography) Working / Worked
Test came back good with no blockages. It was painful though.
      In Vitro Fertilization Considering
      Willing to try, if necessary.
      Metformin Not Working
I have PCOS and insulin resistance; therefore I was put on Metformin. I honestly don't see any difference.
Ovulation Predictor Kit Too Soon to Tell
I've been using the clearblue easy fertility monitor (the sticks are expensive), but it's too soon to know if it is really working. So far, 18 days and no sign of ovulation.
      Progesterone Working / Worked
The doctor put me on this and it certainly made me have a cycle, but it was VERY heavy and VERY painful! The worst side effect was the painful breasts and nausea. It felt like pregnancy, but with nothing to show for it.
      Progesterone Cream Somewhat Helpful
I tried the cream prior to my doctor telling me to stop using it. She didn't want it to interfere with the results of my testing; however I think it worked.
      Vitex Working / Worked
I started taking this about a year ago and it seems to have brought on a cycle by itself. I have not experienced any side effects from it.
    • Open Obesity

I want to be healthy and am ready to make the changes needed to make that happen. I was previously bulemic and have PCOS, both of which contribute to the weight. Losing weight and keeping it off are goals of mine, but being healthy is the most important thing for me right now!

      Treatments

      Swimming Working / Worked
Love to swim and it is great exercise for me; however my pool isn't heated, so winter is tough.
      Weight Watchers Working / Worked
Did it several years ago and it worked, but it didn't stay off.
    • Open Pregnancy

My husband and I desperately want to have a child. I'm working with my doctor about infertility issues, but I want to be prepared for the pregnancy, just in case!

    • Open Pregnancy After Loss/Infertility

My husband and I desperately want to get pregnant, but are facing infertility issues. I just want to know that there is hope for people like us! Seeing success stories makes me feel like it is possible!!

    • Open Step Families

I am nearly 39 and I have a 50 year old Step-Mother. They have been married since I was 10 and she and I had a VERY rough time for many years. I have always felt that being the "step child" puts you on the outside of the family. I'd be interested to find out if that is the case for most people.

    • Open Trying To Conceive

My husband and I are desperately trying to get pregnant. I am almost 39 and have PCOS; therefore infertility is an issue. I hope to find secrets or tips that others have used that helped them to get pregnant!

    • Open Food Addiction

Once had bingeing/purging issues. I have to admit that I still have a problem with Bingeing. I can't control myself around certain foods, typically sweets. I have gained & lost a few hundred pounds over the years. I now am about 100 lbs overweight & HAVE to change my habits! It's a roller coaster of highs and lows and I have my self esteem all wrapped up in it. I KNOW my worth has nothing to do with my appearance, but the lack of self control causes me to really dislike myself!

    • Open Sleep Apnea

Deviated Septum, Severe Allergies, enlarged turbinates and constant nasal congestion

      Treatments

      Astelin Not Working
It is now Astepro and the taste is the most disgusting thing that I have ever experienced! I gag for 15 minutes after using it!! It may help somewhat with the sneezing, but not with the congestion at all!
      CPAP Working / Worked
Used a CPAP, since diagnosed with sleep apnea in December 2007. It makes ALL the difference in my sleep!
    • Open Scoliosis

Recently had surgery and feel that I am experiencing post surgery depression. I am seeking help from others and their experiences!
