Close Bipolar Disorder
I was diagnosed last year when I was 23 as "atypical" because the pdoc said I was to young yo be cycling so fast (ultra-rapid to ultradian cycles). I have been in the hospital and to several pdoc and therapists and not satisfied with the quality. I am going to school for my psych PhD to practice clinical psych with a specialty in mental disorders so I can make a difference which the community very much needs.
Treatments
- Abilify Working / Worked
- 5mg seems to be helping...
- Ativan Working / Worked
- good instant anti-manic. but too much will make me depressed.
- Group Therapy Working / Worked
- very helpful if the are other bipolar people there. *very* good to talk to others face to face who share your experiences.
- Lamictal Working / Worked
- Good stuff. I need more antimanic though, so I started Li.
- Lithium Too Soon to Tell
- Just started this bad boy :)
Close Self-Injury
I've cut off and on since I was 16. It became worse with each manic cycle, reaching the peak when the doctors were afraid I was going to cut into my femoral artery (sever manic episode when I was digging our adipose tissue form my leg for fun) and I was put in the hospital.
Treatments
- Naltrexone Working / Worked
- PLEASE TRY THIS DRUG! It is an opiate antagonist used for withdrawal symptoms. It is used off label to help reduce the urge for skin picking and cutting. I know it sounds crazy and when the doc in the hospital prescribed it to me I didnt believe him... but I havent even had the urge to cut since and I have had bouts of maniamixed episodes and been in the same state of mind where I would have previously cut. Please I encourage anyone to try this. I hope it works for someone else too.
Open Trichotillomania (Hair Pulling)
Type: TrichotillomaniaThe hair pulling... I don't quite know why I do that. It usually occurs during the manic phase, and the best observation I have found is that I need to have more stimulation than what I am giving myself at the current time. The physical sensations keep me in the present and focused. I love the "pop" when I get a hair by the root... it's a little bit of victory for me...
