Close Celiac Disease
Hubby has Dermatitis Herpetiforomis, which is a form of Celiac Disease, requiring a gluten free diet. He is recently diagnosed with low blood sugar also, requiring sugar free diet.
Treatments
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- Avoid MSG, Polysorbit 80, Red 40, & aspartame. Apparently working.
- Gluten Free Diet Working / Worked
- It's a process of learning sources of gluten, and learning a new way of cooking. If he gets gluten, it causes him to break out in very itchy rash on various parts of body. Free of rash for several months now after many years of rash.
Close Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
My husband has hypoglycemia, and I do all his meals. Therefore, I've had to learn as much as I could about a low blood sugar diet/lifestyle.
Open Gout
Hubby is gouty. It has been several months since he had an attack, until 2 days ago. His left big toe is infected, and we need to get a uric acid test run tomorrow to see if it is high, or if this is something else, or just an infection.
Treatments
- Allopurinol Working / Worked
- It had been working until this week.
- Cherries Working / Worked
- He eats dried cherries (fresh when in season) and drinks cherry juice. No side affects, and I believe it did work.
- Colchicine Working / Worked
- Dietary Modification Working / Worked
- Avoided the high purine foods totally. However, I think he has recently eaten too much turkey slices from the deli.
Open Epilepsy & Seizures
We thought hubby was having low blood sugar episodes, but have since found out that his blood sugar is normal most of the time when he has a seizure. Still trying to find out what is going on.
Treatments
- Dilantin Working / Worked
- After taking only 2 doses of Keppra, he had a hard seizure each time. Discontinued use.
