I'm a registerd nurse. Married for 26 years to my wonderful husband. I have 2 children, a daughter who died at the age of 17, she'd now be 24 this September 22nd, and a son who turned 4 this past January. He is a blessing and a gift from heaven. Though not much time due to work and my little fella, I love to garden. Decorating, and I also love to cook, but don't do much of it! Mostly just like to spend time with my family and friends. Helping other moms here on DS...they sure have been a big help to me! Working on a memory page for Meagan...http//:meagan-bowen.memory-of.com

      Type: Loss of a Child

On July 6, 2003 our daughter was murdered. She was 17. I'm finding support here, but I mostly hope to offer support to other mothers of angles.

      Treatments

      Crying Somewhat Helpful
Can be helpful, just getting all the emotions out.....cleansing at times. Always exausting....takes a lot out of me. The shower is a great place for crying.
      Grief Counseling Not Working
Professional counseling did'nt work for me. Daily Strength has been the best greif counseling I've had. Its free and who better to talk to than other grieving mothers.
      Music Working / Worked
Depends on my mood as to which type I listen to. Disco is fun, and makes me move! Love Christian and have to be careful, sometimes though beautiful and inspirational, it can be to emotional at times. Love Rock, Pop and movie soundtracks. Some Country. Some Jazz. Also like Classical. Not much for Bluegrass.
      Prayer Working / Worked
Daily. Have found church family and friends very helpful.
      Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
Currently not taking any meds. Not that I'm strong....I just wanted to see how I would do. OK so far, I guess. Its hard. Considering restarting something for anxiety.
      Reading Working / Worked
Lots of inspirational, self help. Love to get a funny book in as often as I can, laughter is good medicine.
      Remembering Working / Worked
      Always a good thing.
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
Don't know where I would be without it.
      Support Groups Working / Worked
I highly recommend Daily Strength! Check out "For Moms Only" page. Great starting point.
      Talking Working / Worked
Sometimes I can talk and talk about Meagan, other times I can't hardly speak a word. Just to painful.
      Time Too Soon to Tell
It's been 4 years now, still feel numb and sometimes deranged. Still waiting to wake up from this nightmare.
