After I was initially staged Hodgkins Stage IIB in Washington DC I sought a second opinion at Stanford Cancer Center in CA. I urge everyone to do their homework on their potential treatment centers and learn as much as you can about the condition as it is important to become your own advocate in the treamtent process. I had a portion of my biopsy preserved so as a sample could be utilized for future use and this was one of the best decisions I ever made. After reviewing all my scans and biopsy the team at Stanford determined that their had been some disease progression to the spleen and sorroundings below the diaphram changing my staging to IIIB. I began the Stanford V protocol in Oct 2008, endured four months of weekly chemo which was followed by two months of daily involved field radiation. Treatment was certainly not as difficult as I envisioned. I was able to continue working the entire time and maintained a very active physical regimine. I cannot stress the importance of trying to remain as active as possibe...keeping the juices flowing assists your body in getting rid of the nasty drugs more efficiently. I am currently awaiting my first post treatment scans and cross fingers that everything will come up normal. Hope everyone is doing well!
