Sounds like you're doing relatively, very well. I FINALLY got my SSI in June, and just moved into my brand-new low-income apartment. If I wasn't so tired and sore, I'd be doing back-flips!! LOL!!

So happy to hear you are on your way to Hawaii. As for me, I thought I would try school. I'm registered for the Medical Assistant's program next semester. If all goes well, I will try to get off of disability. Have a great trip.

    • Close Bipolar Disorder

In retrospect, my mood problems go back 20+ years, but I was finally diagnosed in 2002. I work part time as a family advocate with our local NAMI affiliate and am always looking for support as well as ways that my experiences with bipolar can be helpful to others.

      Treatments

      Abilify Working / Worked
NO LONGER TAKING THIS- Worked but caused akithesia, med to combat it mademe a zombie, went off both.
      Ambien Not Working
NO LONGER TAKING THIS-Used to work -- I think it just fizzled out after a while.
      Ativan Working / Worked
Ahhh, my dear friend ativan...lol... take it as a prn, usually once a day but can take it up to 3X
      Clozaril Working / Worked
NO LONGER TAKING THIS- Gret drug to stop ultradian rapid cycling...but gained 65 pounds.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Working / Worked
Went to the skills group weekly for about 2 or 3 years. Good group and helpful
      Group Therapy Not Working
I'm sure this would have been great had the therapist been even 1/2 way decent!
      Lamictal Working / Worked
Still working our way up -- at 100 mg now
      Lithium Not Working
NO LONGER TAKING THIS-Welcome to zombit land - this was NOT the right med for me
      Remeron Working / Worked

      Risperdal Working / Worked
NO LONGER TAKING THIS- Quieted the mania though, don't remember why I went off.
      Seroquel Working / Worked
NO LONGER TAKING THIS - This did work for sleep but left me with a hangover till noon.
      Topamax Working / Worked
NO LONGER TAKING THIS-Took it, it seemed effective but the neurologist thought it was contributing to my cognitive recall and memory issues, so I had to go off.
      Trileptal Working / Worked
NO LONGER TAKING THIS -- Can't even remember why
      Wellbutrin Working / Worked
NO LONGER TAKING THIS - Can't say I remember why though
      Zoloft Working / Worked
Works well -- I crash without it but need to keep it low though or it causes me to get manic
    • Close Gastric Bypass Surgery

I've always struggled with my weight, but it got much worse after being dx with bipolar and on meds. I'm only 5' tall and I'm carrying an extra person around with me. lol (100-125 pounds) Want to learn more, then decide about gastric bypass.

    • Open Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

I was dx with PTSD in 2002 at the same time I was dx with bipolar. My traumas are mostly childhood related.

      Treatments

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Working / Worked
I have the best therapist going. I've made tremendous growth and it's been with his help. I DEFINITELY BELIEVE IN THERAPY!
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Working / Worked
I go to, and soon hope to be co-leading a DBT skills group ($$ are tied up in red tape right now). Lots of practical everday life skills everyone should learn!
    • Open Family & Friends of Bipolar

I'm the parent of a wonderful son who is 20 years old. He was dx with Childhood Onset Bipolar Disorder at the age of 7, although was symptomatic from at least the age of 2. The journey has been long and painful, but so worthwhile when I see him today. He is my hero!

    • Open Family & Friends of Cancer Patients

My husband went to the docs for a virus that wouldn't quit on 1/5/2009. We thought he might need antibiotic...instead, he left with cancer. Now, three surgeries, 6 docs, and tons of tests later he started chemo this week for testicular cancer. I want to do this "right".... not sure what that looks like though.
