Interests
I absolutely love to read anything. Maybe you could call me a book hoarder, but at least I read all of my books. I also love classic, silent, and foreign films. My greatest joy is making a home for my husband. There is nothing I love more than taking care of him. He's also trying to broaden my interests.. he thinks I'm sheltered :o).

I’m With You
Hi there,
How are you feeling today? I received very positive feedback from the owner of this site, who is looking into this negative person and her comments. I'm not sure if you have noticed but I haven't seen this lady on here all week. I received a ton of messages from other nice ladies on here saying that they feel the same way about IC Anonymous. I hope you don't leave this site because we need each other. I hope you are feeling better and if you ever need help or advice, please write me. I'm so glad that you are happily married. Isn't it wonderful having a loving and supportive husband? It's great! I don't know what I'd do without him. :) I hope you are having a great day! Thank you for the nice message. :) Also, thank you for the postings because it helped us to address the negativity on this site.
Lots of hugs!
Laura
I’m With You
I am new to this site and have been scanning the posts but I read yours intently from beginning to end. I don't think you were mean at all... you sound passionate, compassionate and you needed to be treated better. Many hugz from another sufferer
Ray of Sunshine
Here's some sunshine to brighten your day! I hope you are well and enjoying life as much as possible! :) Have a wonderful week! Blessings~ Chelsea
Sympathy
I'm concerned and confused. All that I have seen is your response to a person who has obviously discouraged several others on this site. If you want to write or talk about it more, I am here....and so sorry it has come to this. What I saw that you had written I interpreted as being an effort to fix a problem and create an atmosphere of wholesomeness and encouragement. I wish I could understand what happened.
Peace to you
Flower
Hi again,
I just wanted to let you know that I reported abuse on IC Anonymous' message. I think that's why she changed her name again because she was kicked off before. I let the leader of this site know that this lady is not a licensed nurse or doctor and her opinions are not welcome. She is a mean and hurtful person who doesn't seem to truly care about the people on this site. I just wanted to keep you posted. I'm working hard to get our nice support group back. :)

Close Interstitial Cystitis (IC)
Treatments
- Elmiron Working / Worked
- Heading into my second year, and while it hasn't improved the pain I feel, it has improved the physical appearance of my bladder. Even if you can't ease the pain with Elmiron, I would really recommend taking it. You always want to make sure the organ itself gives the appearance of being healthy. Over long periods of time it does repair damage.
- Baking Soda Not Working
- Anything containing baking soda causes me massive pain.
- Bladder Distention Not Working
- I have never done this as a treatment. My urologist used it under anesthesia to diagnose my IC. This procedure left me bedridden for three weeks. I have horrible, horrible pain reactions from distention. My bladder is so small and so damaged, that this is not an option.
- Bladder Instillation Not Working
- Bladder Instillation did not work at all. My bladder and urethra are so small that inserting a catheter actually causes my urethra to collapse. Even when that doesn't happen, my pain is so severe that the treatments just didn't help. EDIT: I've had to start doing one every day because my bladder is refusing to work correctly. I cath now every time I pee.

Even if you can't ease the pain with Elmiron, I would really recommend taking it. You always want to make sure the organ itself gives the appearance of being healthy. Over long periods of time it does repair damage.
- Enablex Not Working
- Enablex did not work for me, and while I was on it, it was causing me to pass out.
- Flomax Working / Worked
- Flomax was prescribed to keep my bladder from pulling and tugging. It works wonderfully. I still have slight tugging in my bladder but nowhere near like it was before the medications. My urologist has tried to take me off of it twice unsuccessfully. I have no side effects. Dosage .4mg 1 tablet. *Only taking it when I need to now.
- Lyrica Not Working
- Lyrica worked enough to justify taking it.. that is until I started gaining massive amounts of weight and was unable to explain it. I stopped the lyrica.. dropped twenty pounds in two weeks. My pain level wasn't that different either, which tells me the lyrica wasn't helping me.
- Minocycline Working / Worked
- I dont actually take this to treat IC. I take it to treat a complication from the IC. The minocycline has helped to prevent scarring.
- Nerve Blocks Working / Worked
- This really did work and took away some of the pelvic pain.. but I started having problems. The veins in my back are so close together that they were nicked every single time we tired the blocks.. which made my heart slow down and skip several beats. One time my heart even stopped completely.. so not an option anymore.
- Nexium Working / Worked
- I throw up a lot from some so far unexplained reason. Because of that there is a lot of damage to my esophagus. The nexium is wonderful. It really helps with the pain I feel.
- Pyridium Not Working
- Any form of this medication causes me to black out.
- Heat Working / Worked
- Whenever Im laying down to watch tv to read or to sleep I use a heating pad. Its another way of helping me to relax since I cant do the physical therapy.
Close Bedwetting
What I have is not actually called bedwetting. I have Primary Nighttime Enuresis, which is a bedwetting condition caused by a defect in the pituitary gland. I have had problems bedwetting my entire life. I started being medicated with DDAVP when I was four years old. I have tried several times to go without medications, but was unsuccessful. When I am not medicated I can wet the bed up to a hundred and twenty times a night. I am an extreme case :o)
Treatments
- Ativan Working / Worked
- This helps me to have better sleep. I wake up so many times during the night to use the bathroom that its hard to fall back asleep because Im wide awake. The Ativan helps me to go back to sleep so I wake feeling good.
- Desmopressin Working / Worked
- This is my miracle medication. I have taken two .2mg tablets every night before I go to sleep since I was four years old. I will have accidents if I do not take this medication. As long as I stay on it, I am accident free.
- Diapers Working / Worked
- I rarely use any kind of diaper because by using them you actually train your mind and your body to rely on them, so you actually can increase your problems. The only time I ever where one is when I've had to go to the hospital or I've had a medical procedure or testing done. Other than that.. its better not to wear one.
Open Urinary Incontinence
I do not really consider myself to have Urinary Incontinence.. I have Primary Nighttime Enuresis which is a bedwetting condition caused by a defect in the pituitary gland.. that does spill over into the daytime and cause problems. I also have Interstitial Cystitis which also causes problems since its a bladder disease. Info and such is in the other support group information sections.. but I am a fountain of information on this subject if you need to talk to someone. :o)
Open Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
My lovely new GI specialist has diagnosed me as having Functional Abdominal Pain Syndrome, Gastroparesis, and Rumination Syndrome. If anyone wants detail about what those are please send me a message.. there isn't enough space here to type it all out.. or you can go read my journal. I believe its on there.
Treatments
- Asacol Not Working
- This helped a little bit for a very short three months. Then it just stopped helping.
- Asacol Not Working
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- I have a VERY strict diet. It's too complicated to list because it deals with IBS and my bladder disease. If you want to know what it is, send me a message and I'll give you my diet details.
- Bentyl Working / Worked
- I take six pills a day. It seems to help a little with my issues.
- Chamomile Working / Worked
- Chamomile and Vanilla help calm my throat and stomach.
- Colace Not Working
- Makes me violently sick to my stomach.. think of the vomiting scene from the Exorcist.. its a lot like that.
- Flagyl Not Working
- I have been given Flagyl on several occasions and I never noticed any difference. I might as well have been swallowing sugar pills.
- Miralax Not Working
- Again.. the violent vomiting.
- Nexium Working / Worked
- My esophagus is seriously damaged. It doesn't really help with the kind of pain I have, but it is repairing the deterioration of my throat.
- Peppermint Not Working
- Peppermint has a calming effect sometimes. It makes my inerds feel cool and relaxed, even when they are not.
- Prednisone Working / Worked
- I do not have a prescription for this and I do not recommend selfmedicating.. but having a Crohns patient for a father makes it easy to get a hold of. I only take it when the swelling and the pain make me feel as if my body is ripping apart.. its a last resort.. and I also let all of my doctors know that I am taking this at times and my father monitors my taking of it very closely. So if you do self medicate.. do it the right way please!
- Probiotics Not Working
- Never noticed any difference or side effects.
- Promethazine Working / Worked
- For normal nausea.. works great and I get a nice nap out of it
- Psyllium Not Working
- Again.. violent vomitting.
- Remeron Not Working
- DEVIL DRUG! Well.. at least for me :o). It did not help at all and that constant hunger made my symptoms worse. Plus there is the fact that it can make you turn into a psycho.. yeah.. not the drug for me.
- Zelnorm Working / Worked
- This worked so well for me up until the FDA pulled it. Thanks for that.
- Zofran Working / Worked
- This is for my Rumination syndrome.. which is my unexplained violent and uncontrollable vomiting. I do not take it daily only as needed. So far it seems to nip that in the bud.
Open Chronic Pain
I've been in chronic pain my entire life. It really began to become unbearable over the last two years. I've tried so many treatments to relieve the pain, but nothing ever seems to work very well.
Treatments
- Cymbalta Not Working
- It helped a little, but I started having massive hallucinations and black-outs.
- Heat Working / Worked
- Heat helps sometimes, whether it's a heating pad or a warm bath. It doesn't do a whole lot for the pain, but it helps me be more comfortable.
- Hydrocodone Working / Worked
- They all took away a little bit of the pain, but again I was having hallucinations and black-outs.
- Lidoderm Not Working
- Lyrica Not Working
- It helped enough to justify taking it until I started gaining massive amounts of weight. I stopped taking the pills and lost twenty pounds in two weeks. And once I was off of it my pain was not any different.. meaning the lyrica had stopped working.
- Meditation Working / Worked
- Meditating and stretching help me to relax and breathe through the pain.
- Mobic Not Working
- Did nothing for me, but I know a lot of people who are helped by it.
- Morphine Working / Worked
- Morphine helps, but that isn't something any doctor around me is going to prescribe. They give it to me before testing and procedures.
- Naproxen Not Working
- I've taken Naproxen for gymnastic injuries and built up a tolerance for it, so it doesn't work for me anymore.
- Nerve Blocks Not Working
- This was very helpful with the pelvic pain until it started causing problems with my heart. My veins are unusually close together, and they had problems inserting the needles. The actually poked through an entire vein and caused my heart to stop. Two shots of epinephrine helped it start beating again, but I am forever turned off by the nerve block.
- Oxycodone Not Working
- Didn't work and gave me black-outs.
- Physical Therapy Not Working
- It made my pain so much worse, and caused a massive increase in my bed-wetting.. and caused massive bladder bleeding.
- TENS Not Working
- HATE that. Doesn't work, and it is so painful.
- Talking Working / Worked
- I really make sure I talk to my family members and friends about what is going on with my health and my pain levels. I doesnt make the pain any easier to deal with but it does make the entire load a lot more comfortable to bear when you have a support system behind you that is trying to understand.. and the only way they can understand is if you have the patience needed to talk to people about it.
- Support Groups Working / Worked
- Same as the talking. It helps to see how other people deal with the same issues as you.
Open Military Families
I recently married an Air Force combat medic. When he is deployed, his deployment time will be for a year. I'm still trying to learn what it means to be a military wife.
