    • About Me

I am a 59 yr.old former medical transcriptionist with Addison's disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hypothyroidism, human growth hormone deficiency, depression, and in a postmenopausal metabolic nightmare. My Dr.has given little info, and I am looking for answers on the web. I have severe energy fall-offs and weakness near cortisol dosing time. During times of stress I have often collapsed, unable to walk or stand. I have no idea how to proceed with my life.Would like somebody to talk to about what to expect.

    • Interests

I have a lot of interests, but there's just not enough time in a day: They are: Sitting on the patio swing with my awesome, unconditionally supportive and tenderly loving husband, music, research/study of Bible prophecies, hiking, dancing (I hope to dance again someday), our soft cudly puppy (Teddybear2), walking in the woods, relaxing near a mountain stream or lake, motorcycle riding (don't ride much anymore (but I remember), visits with my daughter and son-in-law and my darling adorable grandchildren, sitting in the quiet of our home in front of the fire while it is snowing outside, playing the piano, and writing. AND...there is nothing as soothing and filling as the smell of the forest and the sound of the wind in the pines where we live.

    • Close Addison's Disease

I am a 59 yr.old medical transcriptionist(on 3 yr. medical hiatus) with Addison's disease. My Dr.has given little info, and I am looking for answers on the web. I also have hypothyroidism, Human Growth Hormone Deficiency, and am on hormone replacement therapy. Having severe energy fall-off and weakness near cortisol dosing time. During times of stress I have often collapsed, unable to walk or stand. I have no idea how to proceed with my life.Would like somebody to talk to about what to expect.

      Treatments

      Cortisol Working / Worked
07/05 my world turned upside down into horrific mental/physical nightmare, starting with cardiac cath/stent placement, then multi-ENT surgeries, then emergency surgery to stop ENT hemorrhage complication. Upon recovering from that, symptoms of profound weakness and physical collapse intensified. I had gastric surgery for esophageal reflux, and sought endocrine consult resulting in Dx of: Addison's disease, HGH deficiency, hypothyroidism, & postmenopausal hormone deficiency. Taking MANY hormones.
      Florinef Working / Worked
Since starting Cortisol,Florinef,Humatrope, Armour Thyroid,Estradiol,& Prometrium,it has been a roller coaster ride, several times having had near death events. At this time, my Dr. is allowing me to adjust my cortisol dosages throughout the day to find as near-normal function as possible, & has given me extra Cortisol for more intense stressful times.Dr.gave little info.I've been doing my own research online.I'd like to talk to someone else who has Addison's &perhaps get an idea what's ahead.
    • Close GERD & Heartburn

Story's 2 long but in a nutshell:59 yrs old, retired (due to med probs)medical txtionist with: LCA stent, GERD, sleep apnea, Addisons disease,Human Growth Hormone deficiency, hypothyroidism,& depression.Everytime I list these I'm blown away that I'm still alive. Oy!Parents taught me 2 do the best I can with what I have to work with. Due 2 long list of probs I DO have, I prefer 2 think of it as doing the best I can with what I DON'T have.Am happy 2 report my sense of humor is finally returning.

      Treatments

      Antacids Not Working
      Nothing stops the GERD.
Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Somewhat Helpful
Found that NOT eating near bedtime helps.
      Nexium Not Working
Did not help. Actually I think acid reflux got worse when using meds.
      Pepcid Not Working
      Protonix Not Working
      GERD got worse on Protonix.
Raising Bed Position Working / Worked
Bed wedge helped a lot, but don't like sleeping elevated and my hubby down flat below. It became a personal obstacle. We both hated it...but I may need to go back to it if I am unsuccessful at controlling the GERD.
    • Open The Financial Crisis

My story's mostly medical, but I find this group 2B interesting&informative. Been glued 2 the news since things started to tumble, so decided to jump in w/my 2 cents worth. Not politically educated and am non-partison voter, but have strong convictions about political issues. No vote for many years.Disgusted/overwhelmed by lying crooks, but started voting again 3 years ago. I guess getting older steels your wool so-to-speak, and I'm ready to get my dukes up again. :) meadowinthewoods
