About Me
Hi. I'm Louise and I'm an alcoholic. I've been a widow for 14 years now and have never looked for a replacement.I have two sons, one living with me and one with God. I've been a member here since September but I only posted - occasionally- for about a month. At the time I noticed every post I wrote referred to my son who died in May last year. Obviously this was top of my consciousness and of very little use to anyone here.During my years of sobriety I've used most of the things people seem to use here. I've been in AA (for a year, 3 meetings a week which was every one in a 70mile radius), out of AA (8 years) and in a Christian based 12 step program (for the last year). And guess what they all worked. I haven't had any desire to drink at all since 1998.Thinking about how I remained sober gives me a headache. By all accounts I should be 6 feet under by now. I suppose, in the end, we all have to find our own way with the tools we accumulate and this has been mine. If I can be of any help to anyone I would be grateful.

Interests
Reading (mostly detective fiction, nothing to heavy), gardening (sometimes with very unexpected results), walking (not up hill) and sewing. When I first became sober I started making miniature teddy bears. I still do sometimes. Without a doubt they helped me keep off the bottle. I think an adult making teddy bears is less strange than topping up my morning tea with vodka and my inner child just loves it!

Son's memorial speech
This is the speech I gave at my son's memorial service. Not something everyone would be interested in but seemed to go with the post I put up …

Thank you for sharing your personal experience of loss with me. It is really hard to not know even what he would have looked like if he had grown older.

Support Groups
Close Alcoholism
After my husband died I "self-medicated" into a mess. Been sober for quite a while now.
Treatments
- AA Meetings Working / Worked
- Went to 3 meeting a week for about a year, then gradually stopped. Currently attending Alcoholics Victorious at my church due to a family tragedy that leaves me very vulnerable again.
Open Bereavement
Stillamom hasn’t entered any details for this support group.Open Craniosynostosis & Plagiocephaly
Had my operation in the UK back in 1957 so it was experimental at the time. Seems to have been a success since I've had no further problems in over 50 years.
