  it's just that i think i'm taking what i've learned from my past experience (losing my own children to my addiction) and applying it to my everyday dealings with the kids. a lot of the time, they just want to be treated like human beings. these kids have nobody because of past bad choices they've made...and the people who have thrown them away are either their families who taught them those behaviors in the first place or the foster care system who couldn't handle them anymore because those behaviors are all they know. it is kind of draining, though. i want so much to make a difference to these kids, but at this point, since i haven't been there too long, they see me as just another staff member who's there for the paycheck who forgets about them once i walk out that door at the end of my shift. if only they knew....
