Organizing! step 5: the biggest mess Mood
Monday, September 29, 2008

Oh goodness gracious. Today is the last day for my beau to clean out his place. There isn't a whole lot left. I have to say I am really proud of myself for doing a greater share of the work than I thought I would be able to do. Last Friday I did so much. I worked for more than an hour! I took the things out of the basement, got a few small pieces of furniture, the small kitchen appliances, and a few other things at random, neatly packed all of them into my car so they would fit, drove it to our place. I went back and got his computer chair... and since it has wheels, gave it some thought and then pushed it down the street. This gave me an even better idea... Since we don't know anyone with a truck, and the distance is not great enough to get a uhaul or anything, I had the bright idea to take the bed frame pieces, assemble them in his parking space, bring out the box spring and mattress to put the whole thing together, and push it down the street (it, too, has great wheels!!!)

My beau was getting out of his car while I was pushing the chair. He smiled and waved. He helped me unload the car stuff, and I mentioned the idea for the bed. Once inside, we started to take apart my twin bed and got hung up on the frame. Two corners of it were simply stuck. He wanted to give up, and just stood there saying we can carry it to the basement in halves, and I asked him to give me some space to try again. I used my feet and the first one came out really easily. I yelled down to him, I got it!! Then the other corner... a bit tougher because it was the headboard side and I couldn't get the same leverage... but it, too, came loose at long last. We scurried to get the pieces to the basement, and leaned the mattress against the wall. Then came the queen bed... Could we really push it all that way?? We couldn't really think of any better way to do it, so we did it.

Pushing the bed down the street was thrillingly awesome. I had checked the forecast and knew if we waited until Saturday morning, it might be thunderstorming... Ugh.. So when we arrived behind my car, I ran to unlock the door, push the couch in a foot closer to the TV, and begin the task of hauling those mattresses back inside. On the way out to get the box spring, I felt a few raindrops. Time to dash! We got it all inside just in time, and the rain didn't last long at all, but we made the right move doing it on Friday. Then we ordered a pizza.

Taking the frame up was the hardest part. It didn't quite fit up the stairs, and it worried me a lot for the mattresses... He took the frame apart and we put it back together in the room. Next the mattresses. Before we even started, there was a knock on the door... I bet the pizza guy had never seen anyone as sweaty and gross as the two of us, crammed in a tight space between the wall and the mattress, barely able to open the door wide enough to bring in the pizza box! It was a riot. We finished putting the bed together and then feasted like royalty. Mmmmm.

I enjoyed typing up this story, too. It makes me really look at my accomplishments again, and see how we had fun doing it too, even if we had a moment of disagreement and difficulty. In the end, we rejoiced and flopped onto our official bed. OUR place, oh my this rules! However, OUR place is ridiculous with HIS and MY stuff, and we definitely are going to have a hard time walking around all this junk, then picking a place for it or throwing it out. Luckily we have a pretty big basement. We shall see. We're going on two trips, one this weekend to visit my brother, then one the whole next week after we get home to his grandparents in Florida. It will be great to get away from all this. Then back to the big mess. Maybe I can do a bit more with all of this stuff in the next couple of days... Two doctor appointments and then we leave Thursday... I hope I can get out of bed and get the energy that I had on Friday.

Yay progress!!!
