Good news! Mood
Thursday, September 17, 2009 | A Breaking News story

Aubrey and I have been not arguing, but discussing the feeding tube issue all summer. She really wants Kylie to have a G-tube surgically placed and not go back to the nasogastric tube.

I don't like that idea. I tend to view health as working with the person's body first and also trying to take the least invasive solution to health problems. So, we treated the oral aversion intensively and Kylie is now eating well. She couldn't get enough calories to keep her growing and gaining weight so... we have to come up with a plan M. It isn't that bad, but we have wracked our own brains and tried a lot of things to get Princess K to eat. :)

And it worked! Kylie has no symptoms of oral aversion, she likes to eat, she enjoys eating. One therapist said that oral aversion is actually a matter of trust. These kids that are so sick early on will not open their mouths willingly because so many times they have been hurt by doing that.

Plus Dr. Suarez wanted us to and I trust Suarez, immensely. He is one of a few physicians that have such a great reputation, and he has always been very straight, compassionate and helpful.

So, yesterday was the big appointment with the GI doc to set up the surgery for the G-tube. And... the G-tube doc doesn't want to do it... Aubrey isn't happy and I can understand her frustration but...The G tube doc gave us some more ideas to try BEFORE the discussion of G-tube placement. Fine with me

So...The funny thing was that once Aubrey thought that the issue was settled, Kylie started really taking off, eating like a little piggy. I hope that we can keep this trend going and avoid tube feeding altogether.

Did you like my new Avi...that's Kylie at Mohican State Park up in Michigan

If Kylie's eating, then why does she even need an NG tube or G tube? If she does get a G tube, is she getting a Mickey button?

She so far can't take in enough to support her and her growth needs. We have to get her from here up to the point where she weighs as much as 50% of all kids in 9 month. Right now she weighs as much as 5%
