    • About Me

I am 65 years old, married, have a son, daughter and son-in-law, and two grandchildren. I have been retired from a major newspaper in NY for 8 years. The retirement came with an ovarian cancer diagnosis. I have been on chemotherapy prophylactically, and two years ago started kidney dialysis due to the original chemo I took 9 years ago. In spite of this, I lead an active life, keeping up with my health, family, and friends. Most of all, I like to share experience, strength, and hope with others.

      From IUPUI May 29

Hi Linda, Thank you for helping me check the system. It does appear to be working properly now and I've passed the word on to the DS support folks. I heard that you met Lindaheff - how fun that was. I wish we could all visit from time to time. I hope you are doing well - any side effects of topotecan? Have a wonderful weekend. Much love, Janet

Dear Linda I think this Wednesday will be confusing due to the later appt and lengthier chemo, unless you want to meet in the earlier AM. I can arrive in NYC as early as 7AM and will be free until 9AM. I tend to be an earlybird, so if this works let me know. If not,I can email you as soon as they give me my next block of chemo schedules so we can meet. Stay strong! xxLinda

Dear Linda Unfortunately this week may be late as I meet with the oncologist, who`s always off schedule. My bloodwork is at 9:15 and appt at 9:45, however I`ll try to get to NYC early. I have double Chemo, which can`t be mixed until my onc puts the order in, which will run from about 1:15-2:30. Where do you go for your dialysis? I hate to drag you into the city for a short time. However, I can always find out when the next appt is, as it should be an early appt with me done around 10AM. Let me know what you think... xxLinda

Dear Linda Are dialysis and chemo on different days? You`ll have to let me know what kind of schedule you have. I`ll be in NYC next Wednesday AM,on 5/27...I`m happy to hear that you`ve continued to be strong:)

Dear Linda I know how difficult it is to deal with being tired when we`re used to being so very vital. It seems like our lives revolve around the poison they`re putting into us and how they`ll affect us. The Avastin/Gemzar continue to be my drugs "of choice", hopefully they`ll continue to work and not exhaust me. I`m beginning to run again, which has been a challenge and am up to 2 miles now. I just felt that I should try to do something from the past. When is your next treatment?Let me know if you`re ever feeling well enough to meet in NYC on a Monday, treatment day or I could probably travel in on another day, if necessary! xxLinda

    • Close Dialysis

First diagnosed with Stage IIIC Ovarian cancer in 1999, had a hysterectomy, debulking, chemo, and, when able to, joined support groups at Gilda's Club: discussion, exercise, meditation. Would like to participate in support groups concerning ovarian cancer, and hemodialysis. I have been on chemo prophylactically for nine years, had 2 recurrences, an end stage renal disease in the sixth year. Want to share what info I have, as well as learn what others are experiencing.

      Treatments

      Positive Thinking Working / Worked
Along with chemo therapy and dialysis use positive thinking and twelve step recovery programs. I take one day at a time and use prayer meditation positive thinking and sharing.
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
Prayers and sharing with friends and family help tremendously.
      Carboplatin Working / Worked
Used carboplatin and doxil with 2 recurrences of ovarian cancer.

      Treatments

      Aranesp Working / Worked
ON CHEMO (9 YRS) - USED ARANESP THRU CANCER CENTER A FEW YRS AGO. NEEDED LESS OFTEN THAN EPOGEN, AND WORKED VERY WELL
      Epogen Working / Worked
ON CHEMO AND KIDNEY DIALYSIS. DIALYSIS CENTER CONTROLLING THE ANEMIA FROM CHEMO, AND THEY USE EPOGEN. TAKING VERY LONG FOR #S TO RISE.
      Iron Working / Worked
MY DIALYSIS CENTER IS GIVING ME IRON DURING DIALYSIS TREATMENT
    • Open Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)

At age 20 (now 65) I had hypoglycemia, but was diagnosed as having seizures. When it was correctly diagnosed, I used a diet, which limited hypoglycemic incidents. Did 6 mini meals, no more than 3 hrs. without eating, and for snacks ate nuts, cheese, etc.
