I am the mother of 2 teenagers: my son has just enrolled at Sydney University to study Bachelor of Science. My daughter has just started year 11 (senior school). I balance my family life with working full time and commuting into Sydney each day. I was diagnosed with Acromegaly late 2006. It took a while to be diagnosed as first doctor just told me some of my issues were due to my age (pre-menopausal??). I then went to another doctor as I thought I could have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome as symptoms were similar to what my sister has (except I had children). After discovering my prolactin levels were extremely high (and I had stopped breastfeeding 13 years ago), my doctor sent me off for more tests. Little did I realise that some other health issues I had were all related ie carpel tunnel, fatigue etc.

Diagnosed with Acromegaly 2006 after weight gain, irregular periods and other health issues. Doctor thought I was heading towards menopause so wasn't overly concerned. Mentioned my concerns to another doctor as I thought I may have polycystic ovarian syndrome (as suffered by my sister). After numerous tests, I was diagnosed with Acromegaly
I have acromegaly and one of the symptoms is unexplained weight gain. I put on about 20 kgs over 6 years and have spent the last 4 trying to lose it.
