Hi Lauren, I saw your post on the alcoholism board. Though I'm not exactly an athiest, I'm not christian either. Just wanted to say that it's possible to find recovery and happiness without the traditional higher power. There are even some AA groups for athiests and agnostics out there. Stay strong!
Hi there - here's another group on Daily Strength where we explore ANY options for getting sober. Some of us use 12 step programs -- most of us don't. I'm all for whatever works for you. Check us out if you'd like! http://www.dailystrength.org/group...
Hi juniper, welcome to the alcoholism group. You'll hear people mention the God stuff, but it's only in reference to their personal experience. Don't sweat it, no-one will try to knock you down with it. Havn't seen them do so,,,,yet lol. There's quite a few different beliefs. I actually enjoy reading about the buddhism ones. Jump in anytime. I've been through the same procedures with the colostomy bag! This site shows you haven't logged on for a while... I hope things are well!
I have an iliostomy that I had when I was in my twenty's, At that time the only cure was the aurgery. I had not been married that long and we had just had our first child when all of this explosed. I had to have the surgery done, and in thos days there was only one kind of fix. I had my whole large intestine removed and my rectrum, and a partial of my small. A few yeas later, I had heard about this wonderful thing where they could put the pouch inside your body so you would not have to wear the pouch. I went to the great Doctor at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Meet with this doc, he was very nice and seemed very carring. He thought I would make a wonderful patient. Had the surgery done, they sent me home in a week, I still was very ill and did not feel right going home, but what can you do. At home I was not getting any better, in fact I was getting pretty bad. My daugher finally took me to my GP who sent me immediately to emergency, seems I had rupured inside and my waste was flowing throughout my body. I was really on my way to checking out. They wanted to air lift me back to Ann Abor so the same doctor could work on mw, I refured to go, the surgeion the hospial had called to come and see me was very good, he wanted me back to Ann Arbor and I was not going. I wanted this doctor to go in and see wht he could do, for some reason I trusted him immediately. He made no promises to my family, but agreed to see what he could do. He had toh end up taking out most of the rest of my small intestine because it had si any tears in it, it could never be fixed. Beause of that, I have a very small digestive tract, so I have to watxh my diet carefully, hardly nothing has a chance to desolves before it is coming out again. I have to take to shots a day just to slow my system down enough that it dos get sime of the vitamins and nutramnts it needs, but it is never eniugh, I have ti fubd dydratuin everyday, I have to dink lots of inhanced water and I can still dehydrae in a matter of minutes. To make a long story a little shortr, this doc in Grand Rapids saved my likfe, and I have kalways thiught of him as my guardian agnel at that time, I will always live him for giving me back my life, I can and do live with the outside opoliance n=and after what I went therough I don't mind it a bit. Hugs
I have had crohn's disease since I was 12. I had my colon removed about 2 yrs ago, that is not a cure but I am living symptom free for the time being. I had to have my colon removed because of all of the scar tissue that I had incured over the yrs was blocking my colon and its normal functioning and could have burst. I now have an ilostomy and it sucks, messes up ones body image expecially for a 23 yr old woman. But i am learning to deal and I have a very suportive bf...plus no pain!
