I am a single mother of three and the reason for joining this support group is as a result of my 17 year old Son who was injured whilst playing football at School in April of this year. Samuel, my son was an intelligent boy who was leading in both streams of two classes at his year 11 class. He was a fanatic footballer and the school captain of his school. But as fate would have it, while theywere practising for the schools football finals competition, Samuel clashed with his head with another boy, whilst aiming to hit the ball and he collapsed. As he was a boarder, we were never advised of this incident as he come out of his unconciousness almost immediately, or so we were informed by the school. The full story come to be, when Sam came home for school holidays, two weeks after the pitch accident. He started having severe headaches and on the third day at home, on a SUnday, Samuel collapsed and by the time we reached the hospital he was in a coma. He was in this state for three weeks and following a CT Scan and an MRI, the Doctors found a brain injury and his Temporal LObe had been damaged and there was a blood clot on his brain. Treatment commenced and when he come out of the Coma he could not recognise me, his elder Sister or his younger brother and neither could he talk nor recognise anyone. He cannot read and write although he seems to be enjoying working on figures. He has now steadily improved, but the Doctor has confirmed to me that he now has what they call in the medical terminology, "APHASIA". Here in kenya, we do not have any support groups either for the families of the affected patient or for the patient hence my search on the web for a support group that will understand my pain as a mother and that of my Son. It is good to finally be able to comunicate with people who are in our situation as I need someone to understand my pain so badly. This is my Story.
