About Me
I am a single mother of a now 27 month old little boy that was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis on his 18th month b-day. Now I just want my son back running around and going on car rides with me. Instead of me making sure hes breathing, turning him every hour or so and not being able to watch my son enjoy the toys he has. My son is thriving and starts head-start preschool in April. Which I must take a bow for because I'm so excited for that, plus I'm expecting a new baby in August of this year.

Prayer
Hi, This is Darlene. I don't know if you read my response to you on Sept. 29th. Don't you get nursing for your son? Didn't the hospital send you home with a nursing company for support? I know how you are feeling. I felt that and it was harder to be around "normal children". Seeing what they were doing. I have two older children and it's hard on everyone. I wouldn't think about what Emily couldn't do, but what she could do. I would be so thankful for a good day and thank the Lord for it. On bad day I would pray for the strength to get through it. IT DID GET BETTER. Your son is still recovery. Emily has taught us patience. The Lord and Emily work on their time. Just pray to get through one day at a time. Don't think about tommorrow or next week that will be soon enough. Please don't give up on yourself or your son. We spent 3 and half months in the hospital. I came home not feeling like I belonged there. I also thought that when we got home things would be better they weren't at first. But it does get better. That was 9years agon. The dr.'s told us that Emily would never come off the vent. Now she is only on it when she's asleep. She had a gtube for feeding. She had the gtube taken out about 5years ago. She uses a walker, crutches, or a wheelchair. I through a time when I was so scared that something else would happen to Emily. Emily lives as normal a life as she can. Somethings we have to modified so she can do it. But she's active. You are in my thoughts and prays. If you get this email please let me know. I am here if you want to talk. We now live in North Carolina and Emily is in 5th grade. Do I know what her life is going to hold for her? No,but I know she will have a life. Will it be as easy as my older children lives. Proably not,but support and help she will be able to have independent life. So please don't give up.

Close Meningitis
I am a 24yr. old single mother of a sometimes happy almost 22 month old little boy named Kaiden. On his 18month b-day I sped to the emergency room with him in the his carseat on Apr. 19th for a high fever, not eatting or drinking, and his eyes started to stray off. He was then diagnosed with bacterial meningitis and was taken by ambulance to another hospital where he coded and had to be resusicated. After 3 different surgeries & hosp. he's home on a ventilator and can't walk anymore.
Treatments
- Ceftriaxone Working / Worked
- I'm not really sure if there were or wasn't side effects to this treatment. All I know is after my son started receiving the antibotic and then was transported he had thrown up all the medicine given to him and coded so the paramedics, nurses and doctors had to bring him back.
- Vancomycin Working / Worked
- This was only given to him for a short period of time then Kaiden was just left on ceftriaxone.
