Yesterday was so much fun!! We had our first gathering at our house for memorial day.
OMGoodness!
So this house we rented this past January is just my favorite. It has this great open yard, it is on the corner so the lot is large. Then on the other side I am planting a garden.
It is not a real large house, just the right size. it has a large open kitchen though and I just love it! Me, love a kitchen!!! wow, that is a miracle. I love being in there experimenting with cooking and baking!!! wow, lol!
anyway, my hubby late last week said, how about a gathering. nobody really is doing anything? so we said okay, a potluck so people can bring stuff and we probid e the basic hot dogs and hamburgers and that way it differs the cost. which us and everyone around me struggles right now.
so, this is last minute anyway, but many people came. it was very relaxed. We has two wooden closet poles that we tied up and put the rope across the top to amke a make shift volleyball net. just two poles and a rope. and a dollar store ball and peole and the kids just hade fun hitting the ball over this roped! it worked. just a little thought and a look in the garage. yeah.
we put a canopy up that I use for art shows and stuff. so people could sit in the shade of it. We are in the middle of repoting some plants and need potting soil but we needed little tables for people to put there food and stuff on so I turned those upside down and one I nailed a board to it and bolted to the grass to mnake sure it would fall over.
Sunday night I thought oh I will grab my craft stuff I have hear at the house. and in a matter of a couple of hours I made some decorations out of some house paint, cut up old jeans, and scraps of fabric and stuff. and put those up around outside. one said welcome. the big one siad "peace be with you friends. . . ." that was out front. I cut open a brown grocery bag to paint on it. oh gosh it was fun and silly and I am glad I just did it. I din't think anything about whether it was good enough or anything. I just had fun!
People really seemed to enjoy themselves. very comfortable. We had AA friends, family, church friend. so all aspects of life were there and that was so cool for m=people to mix and get along. very comfortable.
it was funny, I made a ribbon thing with string on it so it could be worn, it said "first prize, you are the cook." and taped it to the bottom of on of the chairs outside. So, my friend Ken sat there and we hollared and said wow, your the winner Ken. . blah blah and clapped and he looked under the chair and he proudly wore his ribbon and dutifully cooked the first round of hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill, which we borrowed because we don't have one.
Poeple just pitched in like crazy. We actually had the big grill borrowed and my other friend brought her two small charcoal grills incase they were needed. It was amazing. My friend even brought some trash bags incase it was needed. people really pitched in.
I was honored to spend time with these people.
I will stop rambling now about it.
Gosh, last night was weird. In my sleep, in my dreams I kept having flashbacks and again like usual my hubby had to wake me up out of all of it because I scream and yell and stuff and sometimes it doesn't last and that is okay but I get caught in it or something asn so he wakes up and realizes that that is not good and wakes me up lovingly which is nice. Anyway, I woke up with a huge headache from it. I slept but not quality. thats for sure so this morning I am taking it easy right now. and then I will get going for the day. I do have stuff I have to get done.
It is a beautiful morning here though.
And, yesterday I met our neighbors behind us for the first time. Actually we dont know anyone yet. m oving in in the middle of wwinter is hard. But, they peaked over and started a conversationa nde we got a really nice compliment.
When we moved in, the house had been vacant for a long long time, and the yard was just a mess. great potenial but a mess, overgrown and just a mess. so now we work little by little to make it awesome. it has a lot of beds and stuff already so we are weeding them and so the stuff that there can grow more hopefully. and trying hard. I am planting a garden on oneside, anyway, They said, "you must have bought the house thats awesome," I said oh no, we rent. and they said well, we just wanted to tell you that yall are just doing an awesome job on the yard. It looks soo soo beautiful. We thought with all the work yall do on this house that you must own it because renters just don't usually do things that are extra.
I was so thankful. and so honored. Wow, I do live a life in my spirit and it is showing I guess. They seemed really nice. They invited me to come look at their garden to get tips as this is my first yard anyway and first garden so they said they would help and this bush taht is just a monster right on the property line, they are going to help with. evidently it has been a pain, which it is for us I would be frustrated too with it espcially because they shouldn't have to deal with it, it is not theirs. but they trimmed it while the house was vacant and actually calle dthe owners and siad this is a mess they gave them permission to just cut it back all over. That was nice I think. I mean we have a lot of freedom with it. It at some point obviously someone tried to landscape it really nicely. it just has been a rental for so long with basic renters that the pot=ential is there but the actuality just isn't there yet. We dont' have money to add to what is there. thank goodness there are flowers that have come back and with out the weeds you see them and they look pretty. AMaybe next year financially we will be able to do more than what we can this year. but it is a lot of yard. Funhy this is we didn't know it was all ours when we moved in. They told us it was only to the willow tree. but no, it is all ours. and I love it. it is irragation so the watering is not on house water. otherwiese, we would be in trouble.
so, I am about to go work in the yard before it gets too warm. yeah!! It is so relaxing.
well. what else. beofre I go.
I am going to try put some pics on my profile of my cats. I never thought of that until a friend mentioned putting a pic of new dog.
so, this week that is a goal. I have plenty of pics to choose from. We are camera happy! people!
Love you guys. everyone.
big hugs and many prayers.
Have an awesome day!

wow I'm the first to comment, what an honor! Your journal was so inspiring. I don't know how the rest of the world feels but I think that one person sharing openly and honestly is so incredible and it makes people closer, even if you're geographically fairly close, and more spiritually connected. I can see in you gratitude. It's loud and clear. There's not a lot of renters who would put so much into where they live. To me that's gratitude, for a place to live, making it beautiful, and I think that's incredible. Great journal. xo
