About Me
I am a 48yo woman. I have dealt with chronic pain since Feb. 1991.I have just lost a 15 year domestic partnership and have a very strained relationship with my best friend of 30 years. The main complaint seems to be that I am a different person in the afternoons. I need help while there is still people in my life to loose.

Close Back Pain
I was the movement NCO for my Nationalguard unit when I injured my lower back.1991,discectomy in94 , fusion in 99. Currently diagnosed with failed surgery syndrom. No one would listen until I threatened to eat my gun, then I finaly got an MRI followed immediatly by surgery.4 years of being indigent. No family. No medical insurance.no diagnoses=no disability.I am now on 100% VA benifits.
Treatments
- Acupressure Somewhat Helpful
- Helps but the 80 mile one waydrive to recieve treatments from the Va demenishes benefits.
- Acupuncture Somewhat Helpful
- Helps when I can see a copitent acupuncturist. The one at the VA is not so good and by the time I make the drive it is a waste of time.Seeing someone better is not in my budget.
- Bedrest Somewhat Helpful
- Helps, nessasary at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours each afternoon.Often all day monday after working Sat. and Sun.
- Carisoprodol Somewhat Helpful
- Helped more than I thought it did until I was told not to take it because I now have gastric perioses. I can't afford to relax stomach muscles now.
- Chiropractic Adjustment Somewhat Helpful
- Sometimes helps, sometimes makes things worse. Not available through VA and not in mybudget.
- Cortisone (Injection) Not Working
- Did not help at all.
- Darvon Working / Worked
- No help
- Epidural Injection Not Working
- Did not work.
- Flexeril Working / Worked
- I am immune to it.
- Heat Somewhat Helpful
- Helps sometimes.
- Hydrocodone Somewhat Helpful
- Helps much of the time, when pain is moderate, useless in bad times.
- Ibuprofen Not Working
- Caused permanent stomach problems. I can't ever take any nsaids again, not even asprine without getting a bleeding ulcer.
- Morphine Not Working
- Makes me hyper but doesn't effect pain, except it makes it worse because I am likely toget the chainsaw out and cut firewood.
- Naproxen Not Working
- Stomach side effects with no benefit.
- Physical Therapy Somewhat Helpful
- Helps when I see the right therapist. Non pain induceing techniques for stretches ect.
- Relaxation Somewhat Helpful
- Stretching Somewhat Helpful
- Very helpful in reducing the muscle tightness that increase nerve damage.
- TENS Somewhat Helpful
- For a decade it did not help at all. I tried it again a couple of years ago and found that sometimes if I use it when I am active it will prevent my feet and legs from going numb.It does nothing to reduce pain but seems to improve nerve function.
