updates for the week
Well, Its been another great week in my recovery. Since i started doing pushups, dips and crunchesi have noticed a …
I had an experience yesterday which will never be forgotten by me or any other person that was there and witnessed it like myself. A relative of my husband's wife departed this life during the week. People die everyday of the week, of course, but the fact that she was only 44 made it a tragedy. The last time I saw her was when I went to her wedding a few years ago. It seems that about 6 months ago she developed a bad cough and went to the dr, only to find out that she had lung cancer. She never smoked. The disease progressed rapidly to her brain, and she stopped breathing one evening. There was a DNR (do not resuscitate) order on her chart on the advice of her physician. Nothing prepared me for what happened at her funeral service at the church during her mass.....a small Haitian priest appeared and began to talk. It became rapidly evident that he had a speech impediment.....he started stuttering and I do mean badly! It took him so long to get a word out that it was unbelievable that he could be in a profession involving public speaking! It became most uncomfortable listening to him trying to get each and every word out! THEN IT HAPPENED! The priest kept bursting out laughing like a hyena! Granting him the utmost in compassion would have forgiven this faus pax one time, but he kept doing it during the sermon! People were turning to each other in disbelief. Finally, another priest appeared and took over the speaking. This had to be the most incomprehensable, tasteless behavior toward the dead girl. It was a nightmarish event, and I hope one day to get the courtesy of an explanation for this outlandish behavior! It is something which I will never forget, nor will anyone else that was there, forget!
On a different topic, I found this most unusual plant growing on the side of my house, It got very large and looked totally foreign to me. It struck me because it was so unique, I had never seen anything like it before. It totally peaked my curiousity and I began researching it here at DS. I finally solved the riddle! it was a poisonous plant known to be for witches' brews! I feel very strongly that there are no coincidences in life so I was somewhat 'creeped out' by it's spontaneous appearance. It is a source of atropine, scopolamine, among other potent chemicals. It is highly hallucegenic and likewise deadly, even to the touch of the leaves!
Other than my unusual saturday for experiencing the above, my dr's office screwed up again in misplacing my precertification orders..I have no choice at this point but to find another dr. I'm looking for an old timer, I remember the days when dr's felt an obligation to a patient to cure them..where has this gone? Frankly speaking, I don't know how to go about finding someone who cares...one cannot leave their life in the hands of someone that is too preoccupied to be responsilble to their duties. It is a sad comment on society.

Hello fellow heart patients, In Jan 2006 when I was 34 years old I had a "widow maker" , 100 percent …
I am not Catholic but was married in the Catholic church because of my hub. I don't have alot of experiences with priests but that display by this priest (or anyone who is speaking at a funeral for that matter) is unforgiveable!!
Finding the plant you did is indeed 'spooky'~how do you get rid of it!
Good luck finding a dr. It is somewhat like finding a job......

Well, you hit on some topics that I am not sure about, but I will do the best that I can. The Haitian Priest laughing may be a cultural thing. I the deceased knew the priest, maybe that is what she expected him to do.
I am not a plant person, but It sounds like you found some nightshade. Sounds very appropriate for Halloween Get yourself a witches cook book and find out what it is good for.
The medical profession has the same problems as all the other segments of America. It is greed. If a doctor does not want to be greedy. the insurance and AMA will force him to be.
Did you know that 57% of new medications have been approved without published studies? Most of the time, the doctor does not know what he is prescribing. He might be giving you a poison plant.

I totally agree with you, you had one very unusual saturday.
I for one is Catholic, and this little priest definately had somekind of episode, breakdown if you will, Thank God there was another priest to take over this sad occasion.
Also I agree you should be given an explanation, maybe not you personally, but the husband of this young women whom was the service for..
As for the plant, I've taken down the name of it, and will google it, just curious.
Weird that you never noticed it before, especially if it was huge.
What did you do? Do not touch it with your hands. Make sure you have heavy duty gloves on. Good luck with that...
Now your funeral episode has brought me to think about what happened to a funeral both Richard and I had attended a couple of years ago, for his Aunt Gilberthe, she was 54, had been through a year of chemo, and was in remission, then had the flu shot and her liver shut down and died within 3 days of getting the flu shot.
At the funeral, we are in a small room with approximately 50 chairs, and the coffend is at the front, closed since it was the end of the service before they would bring the body to the cemetary, so the Priest started with a Prayer, and everyone shut their eyes, and prayed.
All of a sudden, we heard a loud shaking noise.
We quickly open our eyes, well some of us, the older people probably didn't hear it, due to ear lost, but we sure did hear it and saw it.
There was a large Vase with Flowers one on each side of the coffen, and the one on her left starting shaking and shaking, I tell you my friend, it shoke for a good 60 seconds if not more.
It was absolutely unbelievable, something we see in a movie.
To this day we wonder why this vase starting shaking uncontrolably like that and not the other one, like lets try to put some logic to it, a big transport truck going by on the main street in front of the building, well first of all, it doesn't take 60 second for a heavy vehicle to pass, and secondly why just the one vase, and no one felt the shaking, just this one bouquet.
Absolutely surreal. We will never forget this wicked episode.
Thanks for sharing your strange saturday, and I will look up this plant on the net.

Gosh!! The priest started laughing? What in the world????.....I'm so sorry your family went through this.
I hope you did not associate that episode with the strange weed. Never own things like that, okay?
God bless you, and I hope today is a far better day.

The longer we live, the longer the LIST grows. It sounds like the priest had a breakdown of sorts. I am so sorry for your loss. The plant sounds like it was growing for a time and had a good dose of water and "shot up" overnight for you to notice it.
Stay strong. Angela

I don't think electroshock therapy will work. I only had a taste of that plant in your yard. Drinking coffee really helps. HA!

To me all of these stories sound like spirits called intranquil spirits, were bothering both the priest and the coffin at the funeral. Sometimes when the body is not yet put to rest and the spirit has not yet departed, bad spirits will come to bother them. The Hatian Priest sounds like he went into trance or a bit of a possion, although I would need more information to discuss this. I don't know about your deadly nightshade, but that is not a good sign! At least it was outside your house and couldn't get in! Good luck!

I have been studying neurochemistry. If it is night shade, it is rich in belladonna. It is an acetocholine inhibitor. Too much of the compound will stop your breathing. Many years ago, women would rub their eyes with belladonna. It would cause their pupils to dilate. The dilated pupils would make men think they were interested in them. That is why it is called belladonna, pretty lady.

Great discussion, Would like to talk more to you about the metaphysical, as that is listed as one of your interests and mine too! Later,

it hasn't occurred to you (since the priest obviously had a severe speech impediment) that the laughter might be a part of his condition? Turrets, among other things, can certainly cause inappropriate laughter. I seriously doubt he would have been laughing at a tragic funeral if he could control it, much like he wouldn't have stuttered if he could control it. While it's unfortunate that he's in a profession that requires public speaking, maybe he has his condition under control most of the time. I think it's sad hat people would get angry at a priest for something obviously beyond his control, without knowing the situation.
