    • About Me

I am a 29 yr. old (will be 30 in a few short months)mother of 2 boys (Lennon who is 8 & Quinlan who is 10)and suffer from Crohn's disease and type2 diabetes. 7 years ago I underwent gastric bypass surgery. Had I known that I would end up with Crohn's, I could have avoided the bypass. I've yet to see an obese Crohn's disease patient.... My oldest has Asperger's Syndrome which is an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Due to his Autism, he was not able to skip a grade like the teachers were hoping to do because of his inability to communicate effectively amongst his peers. In turn, they put him in the Gifted & Talented classes with hopes that it would help him interact more meaningfully with kids his age. Of course, he was upset with me because he had extra homework to do. He eventually came to terms that I did not put him in those classes to get him extra homework. Even with the extra classes/homework, Quinlan managed to get all A's except for the B+ in gym. My youngest has to repeat 2nd grade as he had great difficuties in reading and math. The next step is for him to go and have his sleep study done that the Dr. reffered us to get done. A few weeks ago I watched a program about Hyper Active children whom returned to the mainstream curriculum and off meds after having their tonsils/adnoids removed. The success rate was as high as 75%. Unlike adults, kids get hyper when sleepy and if they snore at night, they are not getting restful sleep (rem) causing ADD/ADHD. I'm hoping that having his tonsils removed will improve his behavior at school so we can avoid putting him on any kind of medication.
