If I can persuade just one person to quit smoking (hopefully more) after reading this, I will be fulfilled...
Greetings, from the top of the mountain.
First off, congrats. on the smoking project. For you little sister, the worst is behind you, the jogging proves that. Just remember, the "ghost of the smoking monster" is always running behind you, keep your distance, and never let him catch you. As we both know, it is an addiction, and once you smoke, the attraction will always be there. I am the sad example. I quit for ten years, and a simple cig. over a candle lit dinner, and the rest is history.
I finally got the call yesterday from the wound center at the hospital, and the approval for the start of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, (HBO) starts next week. I await their letter of confirmation, but the Hospital has an authorization no., and that's all they need to get started. Not a minute to soon. What is left of my teeth, are now breaking off at the gum line. Just breaking off. No pain, no blood. Problem is the root is still in the gum, and will have to come out. Three have broken as of now, and while eating a piece of buttered bread! I am sick of being sick, and have made peace with the fact that full dentures are around the corner. Looking forward to a large sizzling steak, and corn on the cob, buttered and salted.

This is so sad and very powerful for all to read thank you for sharing. I was just going to pop in for a minute and I am glad I did this will be in my mind if I ever think about going back....NOPE!!!!

oh that is a really sad letter. I didnt realise your brother is sick. If it isnt rude can I ask what is his illness? I know he said his teeth are breaking and that sounds terrible. My heart goes out to you and him

Yes, thanks guys. He had throat cancer(tumor) and went through intense chemo and radiation. Most of his problems now are from the radiation (teeth falling out, etc.) I think he is finally coming around to admit that his smoking had something to do with this!! Previously he would not admit that. He is still smoking, though and told me I will be the first to know when he quits. We shall see...

I'm so sorry Aeris- I know how hard it must be to see your own brother go through such a tough medical challenge. I so wish he had seen the light and quit before he got so sick. But hopefully others can learn from this and understand how smoking really kills and maims us. I'm very sad for you and your brother.... please give him a hug for me-

Thanks aeris that is so powerful and I am soo sorry your bro is so sick. I wish he wasnt smoking and you are right that the ca is probably for smoking. I dont understand the hyperbaric chamber though....No pain with his teeth? that is a blessing it not! Hang in there and you can tell he is proud of his sis!!!!

Thanks for sharing this.. I am so sorry for your brother's pain snd suffering and all or your families worry. I will add my hopes to yours that he quit smoking. You know modelling is the strongest teacher...good for you Sis! I know my dentist told me I would lose me teeth 50% faster as a smoker...he actually wanted to pull one that was loose. That was the final straw for me...I quit then. Smoking hurts us in so many ways. I am sending out prayers for your brother and you..and hugs.
