Hi. I'm doing great. I only log onto DS like once every two weeks, if even that often, so if you really wanted contact me you'd be better off with my email address, shewhowalkswiththee@yahoo.com or peofin@yahoo.com. How are you doing?

It's a blessing and a curse. We're better for it because we can tolerate more but suffering this long can really drive you crazy eh?
I’m With You
I truly know how you feel. I'm 43 I had my spinal fusion in 1979 when I was 14. I wore a brace for a very short period of time b/4 that because by the time I was diagnosed it was too late for anything but surgery. It was very embarrassing wearing it to school, it took away all my self esteem, and 30yrs ago when you had a fusion you had to wear a full body cast for 9 months. Most of my 9th grade yr in school I had a body cast on and there was no way to hide it. I wanted to quit school and hide from the world. When I got my cast off in August 1980 the damage to my self esteem was already done. No matter what anyone says, I have a hard time feeling attractive, although it has gotten better over time. I do understand how you feel. The main thing that has helped me is dont be obsessed with it-and its hard not to sometimes, and there are others who are worse off. You are beautiful, and dont forget that. Hugs, Bonnie

I was upset by your story - that's so sad. I can't stand for long, but am OK sitting (so far) - but thanks for the advice re brace (Dr. diagnosed problem aged 11 & I was supposed to be braced, but Mum was so sick- had MS, & just forgot. I've been told to get a surgical corset - and now I think I will, as am going downhill v.quickly: I mean in '04 I took myself to the other side of the continent, ran around town, & caught buses etc. - have a stock now (it is useful- knees need replacing, but that's a Rheumatoid thing) At least with white hair & stick, helpful people are! I love swimming, but have not been since daughter & family left middle of last year: ther is probably a class for us oldies & I should go. Op. on jawbone tomorrow, & am scared (what a baby I am). Best wishes, JaneD.
