Moment of Peace
Bistro (11/16/09)
Y'know, I thought about telling him about our group, then sort of dropped it. I've kept a comfotable distance, and if he finds it by himself that's great. Besides, I have told three other people about what a great idea it is, and none of them looked into it. I might over time. Thanks!

Read your message a couple of days ago and pleased you have got some cover. But 5K deductible??? Hadnt heard of that....It still seems like a nightmare to me! Just been UK et al 3 plus months to escape cold here which makes me much worse but also hoping to plug into new treatment in UK but discovered not allowed to present with existing condition as I havent been resident for so long! They would treat anything new. Havent worked out how long I would have to reside there if I returned to live( which pretty unlikely as I dont like UK lifestyle atmosphere though appreciate the historical stuff.) Am expecting a German friend to stay this coming week. Will ask him about German healthcare. He was one of those people who got caught in the west (luckily maybe) when the original Berlin wall went up as he was studying that side. Full of amazing stories. Anyway glad you have some resolution as this disease is bad enough without having to uproot from what I presume is otherwise OK situation...

Hi I am from NZ and just read your posting. Am gobsmacked at the cost of insurance. I got into a discussion on this site with someone who totally supports US private system and is afraid of change. But how can you guys over there afford those sort of costs? We have a similar system to UK here in NZ - pay for doctors but subsidised as you get older/and/or have an ongoing complaint but our prescriptions are cheaper than UK. We also have a parallel private system which deals more with things that people dont want to wait for such as hip replacements but which also do some major stuff. I have a friend who had heart surgery at 91 because the public system refusted her. We looked into private insurance costs years ago and are glad we didnt sign up. My husband had a brain tumour (costs around NZ$35000) which wouldnt have been available privately anyway. Over here insurers keep clawing back what percentage they will pay of doctor and hospital costs so some people have dropped their insurance. Plus the recession of course.
I just wish you all the luck and so hope the US gets some sort of parallel system going but the medical industry (an alien concept to us here) seem to be lobbying against it. My personal opinion is that choice is democratic and rich people can pay to queue jump but the thought of people dying because they cant afford treatment seems barbaric and totally unchristian. I wish you all the luck with this and hope if you have to find work you can get something that pays well and helps. -

Hi Bigi! Thanks for your response to 'Fun Things to do'!
I really like the idea of the Senior Tours...I wouldn't necessarily want to run them, but it sounds like it would be fun to go on! Plus it would get me out of the house and allow me to meet some new people!
Thanks again and Hugs to you! -

What a wonderful "report". Am so happy for you that you are getting relief. I "think" I am almost ready, as the pain has been relentless and I don't know how much more of it I can take. Taking 5 ibuprofren at a time is going to rip a hole in my gut, and barely get any type of relief. Pretty bad when you have to lift your leg out of the car. Thank you, and please keep me posted -- especially, if you notice any side effects, as I guess that is what is keeping me from trying it. I really appreciate you writing and so glad that you are getting your life back, congrats!

HI, saw that you started Enbrel. That is what the doc is recommending "next" but I am scared to death of the side effects. But, at this very moment, if they said "you will die next month, but for now, you will feel better" I would 'almost' go for it. Just a scardey-cat, I guess. Keep me posted in how it is working and if you notice side effects, OK? THANKS!
