A Very Present Help
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help and trouble.
Psalm 46:1
The words of psalm 46 inspired Martin Luther to write the majestic song
"A
Mighty Fortress Is Our God." a fortress is appropriate imagery because it
portrays the fact that God is both our refuge and our strength. He
provides
for us a protective shelter that cannot be penetrated even in the
fiercest
of battles, and at the same time. He equips and empowers us so we can
have
strategic advantage over our foes.
God is also a "very present help" in trouble. He is even closer to us
then
the trouble itself. His availability to us is instant. With Him, help is
never "on the way," its already with us.
As Martin Luther said, "Though this world with devils filled should
threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to
triumph through us."
