Close Sexual Abuse
I was sexually abused at the age of 5. I have had multiple abusers and was raped at 16. Never told anyone until a 1 & 1/2 ago when we started family counseling but what brought all of this out was my youngest daughter getting raped by my niece's husband.

- Very intense book and workbook. Should only be undertaken with a good support system in place. It is a book that needs to be done at a slow pace. It is very validating and really makes you feel that we can truly become survivors.
Close Depression
Type: Clinical (Major) DepressionHave suffered from depression for over 15 years. Have been in therapy since 12/05. Problems with teen-age daughter and have had one crisis after another including losing a sister.

- Discontinued. Dr. thinks that anti-depressant could be making suicidal thoughts worse. Too soon to tell if theory is correct.

Open Self-Injury
I am a cutter. I cut to relieve the pain and to let out the overwhelming emotions that build up inside. Have started as a child by carving help into my skin at times because of sexual abuse. I have had a relapse.

- New therapist. Does not look down on me because of the cutting.
- Talking Somewhat Helpful
- Has helped to help me decide to not cut at times. Able to come up with other solutions.

Open Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
I was diagnosed over a year ago with PTSD mainly because of the sexual abuse I suffered as a child but other and recent events have contributed to this also. The flashbacks have to be the worst thing to deal with and the nightmares. It is very hard to control the flashbacks.

Been suffering from insomnia for the last 2 years trying various medications. Had to discontinue meds because of my chronic suicidality.

- CR works better than just plain Ambien. Discontinued because of suicide attempts.

- Discontinued because of chronic suicidal tendencies.

- Caused vivid nightmares. Discontinued.

- Too much of a hung over feeling the next day. Too tired to do anything.
Open Bipolar Disorder
Finally been formally diagnosed with it and started on the proper treatment. Hopefully I'm on my way to having some type of normalcy back into my life.
