I have Bertolotti Syndrome. It is a birth defect. When I was around 28 years old I hurt my back at work. I had a spinal fusion in 1987 which failed and rods put in my back in 2003. The doctors all say the second fusion looks good but I am in excruciating pain from my lower back to my toes. None of the doctors will even discuss the Bertolotti Syndrome. I did have one doctor tell me what the condition is called, that's how I know what it is. The L5 vertebra grows out to the iliac crest and attempts to form a sacrum joint. This all takes place when the skeleton is forming in a developing baby. Is there anybody out there that knows how to treat this? I'm tired of being in pain. Is there anybody out there that has or has heard of this condition? If there is, I need your help!
