About Me
I am 52 years old and for the first time in 37 years I find myself out of the work force. I am in a long term relationship which has suffered because of my depression and I'm a long way from family, a support system and independence.

Close Depression
: Clinical (Major) DepressionI am 52 years old and for the first time in 37 years I find myself out of the work force because I am disability for depression. Before this I never even believed depression was a disability. I lost my job to downsizing and politics about 5 years ago. I was quite good at it and fairly well known in the community. Along with my job I lost my sense of identity, any feelings of worth, the respect of my partner, gone through all my savings and retirement and from there it was a slippery slope to losing my mind and losing any reason to get up in the morning.
Treatments
- Psychotherapy Too Soon to Tell
- I have been in therapy with a psychiatrist for about three months but Im not sure if she is just nodding her head in agreement or storing it all up and soon shell come up with some brilliant insights. So far not so much.
- Cymbalta Working / Worked
- Seems to help with the tearfulness. Also very expensive if you have no insurance or are in the Medicare coverage Gap as I am.
- Lamictal Working / Worked
- Lamictal has recently been increased to 200mg a day and it seems to be working with the mood changes but it is unbelievably expensive if you have no insurance.
- Lunesta Working / Worked
- Works at 6mgs a night. Dr. will only write 3mg a night even though in the hospital they gave 3mg repeated in an hour if you were not asleep. This means I sleep great for 15 nights and then my body struggles without sleep for two or three days and then sleeps 24 or so hours until it time to refill the Lunesta prescription.
- Seroquel Working / Worked
- Seroquel is prescribed at night for sleep and it does work but at a very high dose which is also about 584.00 a month so the cost is prohibitive.
- Xanax Not Working
- I first started using Xanax to sleep when I lost my job. Within months I was addicted and had to be hospitalized to withdraw. Never touch it again. Its great for anxiety if monitored closely but my Doc was soon giving me 10 milligrams a day.
- Provigil Working / Worked
- Worked great to get me started in the day since I was fatigued from not sleeping at night but pretty soon it just made me jitterry and harder to get to sleep.
- Metoprolol Working / Worked
- Lescol Working / Worked
