Types: Kidney (Renal)

I had a k/p transplant almost 8 years ago. While both organs work fantastically, two of the mdications have made me a Type 2 diabetic.

Treatments

Azathioprine Working / Worked

Swithced from Cellcept to Imuran while trying to become pregnant. Seems to work fine & no side effects.

Cellcept Working / Worked

I took this until switching to Imuran when trying to get pregnant. Gave me diarhhea.

Gancyclovir Working / Worked

Took for 3 months post transplant. Shortly after stopiing it, got CMV and had to get IV Gancyclovir 2 X a day for 5 weeks.

Kidney Transplant Working / Worked

Kindey and pancreas both working beautifully.

Prograf Working / Worked

Have taken this since transplant. One of the meds that has caused me to have Type 2 diabetes.

Prednisone Working / Worked

Have taken this since transplant. Would love to get off of it or at least lower dose but neph is keeping it where it is.

Open Parents of Children with ADHD

My 10 year old son has always been hyper but started showing more signs of ADHD over the last few years. He started taking Ritalin in late April (just 20 mg once a day) and school has been going much smoother. He only takes it on school days and since I homeschool, that is only 4 days a week. We're hoping he'll outgrow it in the next couple of years.

My husband and I have a 10 year old son. He's a great kid!

Patience Somewhat Helpful

He has ADHD so my patience is always being tested.

Open Infertility

Been TTC baby #2 for over 6 years. Suffered 4 miscarriages duriing this time. Currently undergoing fertility treatment.

Treatments

Basal Thermometer Not Working

Used to work for me but for about the last 8 months, my BBT is always high.

Clomid Working / Worked

I always have at least 2 mature follicles.

Femara Somewhat Helpful

Bad side effects and didn't work as well as Clomid for me.

Folic Acid Working / Worked

I suppose it's working. I take 4 mg daily.

hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) Working / Worked

I don't seem to ovulate without it anymore.

HSG (Hysterosalpingography) Working / Worked

Had one done in January of 2008. No blockages and everything looked great.

Hysteroscopy Working / Worked

Had one done when I had a polypectomy and D & C last year.

Metformin Working / Worked

Became type 2 diabetic after transplant. Metformin helps regulate my blood sugar.

Ovulation Predictor Kit Somewhat Helpful

I get a faint line which gets darker but never makes it all the way. Then it goes light again.

Progesterone Working / Worked

Has been a huge help in extending my luteal phase.

Open Anemia

Became anemic about 12 years ago because of kidney disease. I still suffer from it off and on after kidney transplant.

Treatments

Aranesp Working / Worked

It worked but I didn't have a good reaction to it. I prefer epogen.

Epogen Working / Worked

Epogen works great for me. It brings me hematocrit up very quickly.

Folic Acid Somewhat Helpful

I don't know if it's helping or not. I take 3mg of folic acid a day for other reasons.

Iron Working / Worked

I take tons of iron just to keep all my iron levels normal. It definitely helps my blood count to stay normal.

Vitamin B6 Somewhat Helpful

I don't know if this is helping either. I take b vitamins because I'm a semi vegetarian.

Open Trying To Conceive

I have a 10 year old son and have been TTC #2 for 6 1/2 years. Had 4 m/c during that time. Currently using Clomid and just did our first IUI on Monday.

Open Diabetes Type 2

I was diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic in February of 1981, at the age of 9. During my teens and early 20's, I suffered from diabulemia and because of it, developed many complications. I had a kidney/pancreas transplant in Sept of 2000 and now, because of 2 of the meds I take, I am a type 2 diabetic. I guess they call it chemically induced type 2 diabetes.

Eating Healthier Foods Working / Worked

I eat low fat, whole grain, organic, and no meat.

Lantus Working / Worked

Helps keep my BG nice and even.

Metformin Working / Worked

Works great!

Physical Exercise Working / Worked

I bike 10-20 miles every day.

I've been home schooling my son since kindergarten.
