Scene I

I walked into the beauty salon and my hairdresser told me to wait a few minutes before she worked on my hair. I agreed and waited. When I finally sat in her chair, she replied, "Did you hear the story of the black woman who tried to leave the white wealthy man. He hired a man, to dress like a clown and shoot her, right at her front door. " She continued saying, "They lived in Atlanta, Georgia and relocated to Palm Beach. In Atlanta, he was very proud of his wife and their interracial marriage was accepted, but he brought a mansion on the island of Palm Beach in Florida and the marriage began to go down hill from there. The rich folk on the island, didn't invite the couple to their elaborate parties and social gatherings because of the color of his wife's skin or her ethnicity. So, he left her at home frequently, fore he was embarrassed to be seen in public with her. The wife became very unhappy and moved back to Atlanta. The husband refused to move back to Atlanta with her, and sought to divorce her. She also sought to divorce him. After hiring an attorney, the wife was entitled to have of his assets. The husband became furious, and sought to get rid of her, forever and he did. "

I replied, "He obviously didn't love her, did he? If he did, he would have relocated back to Atlanta with her." My hairdresser later said to me, "The reason black women stare at a black man with a white woman is because, he is helping someone else outside his race. Do you think that you are too good for a black man?"

This question made me very uncomfortable, and I felt the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

Fore, she asked this question in front of others,  she knows my husband is caucasian. This was my first real encounter with an African American female racist attitude. If any one of you, (who reads this) was confronted with this situation, how would you have dealt with this situation? I welcome all responses.
