BIKERS are on the road. PAY ATTENTION! Mood
Thursday, July 9, 2009 | A Frustrating story

oh for chr*st's sake!! The way this world has gotten so self-centered and lazy and complacent drives me NUTS.  My 16 year old daughter just got her license and she fears I don't trust her because of my fear and concern for her when she drives on her own.  I trust her completely, it's the other idiots I don't trust. Everyone is so caught up in their drama and bullshit that noone pays attention anymore.

So, yesterday as me and the girls are driving back, bikes in the back of the truck, from a 15 mile bike ride on a trail.......Im sitting at a stop light. It's a large intersection with double turning lanes all 4 directions....We are discussing how nice the ride was and just chatting away. Im looking at them, the light, them, the light....waiting for the green light. I hear this sound! Dear god, I know immediately something just hit something!  I look in front of me and see.....a Motorcycle and a man sliding across the road in front of me about two feet apart going the same speed. My oldest immediately freaks out yelling, MOM! OMG MOM!  Between my 15 "holy shit's"  I immediately tell the 16 year old to call 911.

I am in the 2nd lane to the curb. The first lane is a turn lane. I thank god I was in front, pulled my large F150 over to block my and the turn lanes'. As he has managed to crawl out of the road but his bike is still in the road. My baby calls 911, I get out and immediately check him out. He is bleeding like a BITCH. (I wanted to slap him for wearing flip flops while riding but at this point it don't matter).  He is road rashed all over his legs and arms and hands, but otherwise seems to be relatively ok. Other than a large gash in his foot bleeding like crazy. Blood is everywhere.

At this point, traffic start getting snarled.  People are staring and honking but not asking if help was needed or asking if police were called. I have a large truck blocking two lanes, they can kiss my ass, I don't care. NOONE, I mean NOONE seemed to give a shit, other than the fact that the lanes were blocked. ARGHH!!!  I get some napkins out of my truck, the cops are on the way, I make him cover the wound that is bleeding the worst and move his bike out of the road. Thank god it was a small one. It appears to still be in working condition, just scratched to hell.

Meanwhile, remember I just got done with a long bike ride, I am wearing workout clothes, and sweating like a bitch, I can only imagine what I looked like. lol

I move my truck now, to just blocking one lane as there is debris in the road and it IS the scene of an accident. The cops show up, they don't need me, I jump in my truck and head on home.  Me and the girls discuss everything that just happened. The twins were bothered  by the amount of blood on the sidewalk and street. I assured them he was ok, but then we discussed the proper gear when riding.

So my daughter got to make her first 911 call. She said it was scary, but Im glad she did it and she did it well. This way in the future she'll know what needs to be done. They stayed on the phone with her till the cops got there. She did very good, Im proud of her.

What caused this??? As all the lanes are double turning, a truck, F150 type was turning and simply took a huge as turn, not staying in his lane and bumped this guy on his bike and kept on going. I honestly don't even think the guy knew that he hit him. Thank god they were turning and going very slow.

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS folks!

I ride motorcycles. And I know ALOT of people that do. It's not about who's right or who has the right of way when driving between cars and bikes. They are both vehicles. Bikers need to be just as aware around them as cars do.

This kid was 25 and young. He was wearing a helmet thank god(state law) but he'll be ok. He's hurting right now, but he'll be ok.

PLEASE just pay attention around you!!
